Report State 1099-G

Rec'd a state 1099-G (Box 3 - Tax Year 2016)
Had an over payment in 2016
I was able to itemize my deductions in 2016
I applied full amount of over payment to estimated taxes for 2017

I am able itemized my deductions this year (2017) and the amount of this 1099-G and estimated taxes are on my Schedule A

Do I still have to report and pay taxes on the 1099-G amount?

Thanks in advance

Yes, you do.

If you took your state tax refund off on your Schedule A in 2016, then your refund is taxable in 2017.

To enter:

1.       Click Federal on the left-hand side menu.

2.       Click Income across the top.

3.       Scroll down to Other Common Income and click Show more.

4.       Click Start or Revisit by Refunds Received for State/Local Tax Returns.
