Rental property income

I bought a new house last year as a rental property. Since the house was covered under 1 year warranty by the builder we decided to self manage it for the first year. We rented the property to the US Army Corps. The Corps issued a substitute form in lieu of form 1099-MISC showing the rent paid. My questions are:

1. How do I show this rental income if I don't have a 1099-MISC?

2. How do I deduct the interest and any other expenses related to the property?

Rental property income

Your rental income and expenses will be reported on Schedule E.  As you go through this section in TurboTax, you will see an option to report income from the rental property without it requiring a Form 1099-MISC.

Then, after the income has been reported, go through the expenses section and TurboTax will walk you through entering your rental expenses.

Since this is a new rental property, you will also need to answer some basic questions about the property.  Be sure to indicate that this is the first year you have rented the property and you will see question to answer about the cost of the property, when you purchased it, and other information needed to set up depreciation for the house itself.
