Rejection for 8962

My returns have been rejected for a missing 1095-A.  TurboTax (TT) is dvising to fill out a 8962.  However, I received a 1095-C - So, a 1095-A should not be required.  How do I fix this to show that I received a 1095-C.  Also, my child's returns were rejected for the same reason.  I can not claim them due to their age.  However, I have them on my employer's medical insurance.

(Side note it seems the easier way of fixing this is for turbo tax to ask which forms were received and to make the appropriate form adjustments and calculations from there.  Instead of frustrating the end-user with additional work on a topic most of us hate dealing with.)

You may have inadvertently entered that you have a government plan so TurboTax is asking for form 1095-A. You don't enter 1095-C on your tax return. It's for informational purposes. Keep it with your tax documents.

To remove the 1095-A question, you'll need to delete the 1095-A form and also form 8962.

  • If you're using TurboTax Online software and need to delete a form, click here.
  • If you're using TurboTax CD\Download software and need to delete a form, click here

Once you delete the forms, go back through the health insurance section of TurboTax. Please follow these steps:

  1. Type health insurance in the search box and click on Jump to health insurance.
  2. Continue with the onscreen interview.
  3. When you get to the Did you receive Form 1095-A for your health insurance plan? screen, select No, I didn't receive Form 1095-A and Continue.
  4. Continue with the onscreen interview until complete.

The suggested solution would be helpful if the forms were available to delete.  However, they are not.  I have followed the instructions provided.  Unfortunately, this is not a viable option as the documents are not listed.  Please provide a viable solution.  I am getting more and more frustrated with this process with each response that does not yield a resolution.

Another method you could try is to go back to the page where you answer the question concerning the 1095-A to change your answer.  To get to that screen:

  1. Go to the Federal section
  2. Search the term "1095-A" and click on "Jump to"
  3. On the screen that says "Before we ask about your Form 1095-A, we need to ask about some other information" answer the question and click Continue.
  4. On the next screen "Did you receive Form 1095-A for your health insurance plan?"  Answer "no" if you do not have a 1095-A.   This should remove any reference to the 1095-A in your return and click Continue.
  5. After you complete this section, then you can go ahead and re-e-file your return.
