Solved

Rejected return due to Daikin QMID code. Code is correct but IRS does not recognize it. Any solution? Can I just use another manufacturer code?

You can enter another manufacturer's code and that will get you past the efile issue. But before you do that make certain that the first digit in your code is I as in India and not the number 1. I7Q6 is the code for Daikin.

If that is still bouncing back then save all of your documentation in case there are any questions in the future and you will have to print and mail your return in order to get the proper credit.

Tried to refile, but still get rejected and get the same TurboTax message that says I must wait until March 6 before I can refile again.

I have read in this community link that this problem has been going on since January for both the professional intuit tax accountants and personal desktop/online platforms. It appears that some people have returns accepted, others get irs notices that the QMID field is blank, others report that the Lennox code is having similar problems, others report that they have printed and mailed their returns. IRS says the problem is not on their end; it must be with intuit. Any idea if intuit is working on this problem or when intuit will fix this software glitch?

Yes, the IRS has been rejecting QMID codes beginning with 'I' or 'O'. You can try entering a different code, as long as it's a legit code, which has let other users efile successfully. The computer checking at the IRS end is not matching codes to equipment, just looking for a proper one.

You can also try deleting Form 5695 and step through the interview section again to let it repopulate.

A little different twist on this problem....I read the replies and didn't see it.

My Fed return was ACCEPTED using the I7Q6 Daikin QMID Code. When I received my return, it was substantially less than I expected. Yesterday I received the anticipated IRS (CP12) "Changed Return" letter, stating my return was changed because the QMID I used didn't match their records.

"If you disagree with the change(s) we made to your return, contact us at 800-829-0922 and we will reverse the changes." Called and after much "research" the C/S person says it was changed for a math error....no, there wasn't and read her the explanation from the form.

There's a half hour wasted so I'm off to write a letter.

I don’t have penalties or fees associated with this TurboTax failure. As is noted by many filers on both the Forums here, as well as the Daikin website, the problem is that during transmission of the return to the IRS, the QMID Code is apparently not being recognized properly, so it removes the allowed deduction on Form 5965, Line 29a. In my case that reduced my refund by the allowed amount…. $1800. I still received a refund, just reduced by that much…… that’s a pretty big deal.

My return was initially accepted, but then I received LTR 12C claiming I left the QMID blank. I was invited to use irs.gov/connect to send my 5695 form, which clearly shows the code. I'm still waiting to hear back that the issue has been resolved.

I battled this for months with Turbotax - explaining in excruciating detail what their bug was. Then they fixed it and i e-filed. Didn't owe anything so that was good.

Now the IRS has the same issue,

I suggest that in addition to dealing with the IRS you should write a letter to your congress person and your senators. explain that this is a known IRS error. Ask them to prod the IRS. government agencies do not like to have to deal with congress but they often respond more quickly.

Wouldn't turbo tax be responsible to help advocate for everyone with this issue? Their fault or not we paid a service.

Same exact thing happened to me, but what can you possibly write in the letter since they already have the Daikin code you used?

what would your explanation be if they are saying it is correct on their end?

Which commenter are you asking this of? For myself, responding to the LTR 12C I included a PDF of the form 5595 that had the Daikin mfg code and included the same in my note. Basically, just having someone review it for completeness was the only solution needed. I don't know if the code was initially stripped during transmission as some have said or not. The LTR 12C was simply asking for the missing code, which I provided. Whether they believed me that it was sent initially is basically moot. Got my full refund, just delayed a couple weeks.
