Rejected IND codes

Do you have your new spouse's AGI from her return last year?  It is using that number to verify her identity and apparently is unable to do so.

I have the Agi and we put the numbers in correctly so I don’t know why it’s still giving these codes.

@Demetrius3

Was your spouse's 2023 return filed late in the year such as after October 2024?  If so, then an AGI frequently doesn't show up in the IRS database because of the late filing, and an AGI of 0 would be used.

Regardless, if this was happening to me and a spouse, I would try using my 2023 AGI (as taxpayer 1) to verify me, and I'd try using an AGI of 0 for the spouse.    Surprisingly, that sometimes works when the IRS database is not matching.   It's quick and can't hurt anything to try.

I don’t believe so. But what you’re saying is to put my 2023 agi to 1 and my wife’s to 0? To fix the ind codes?

 NO, that's not what I meant!  You are Taxpayer 1 (i.e., the primary filer.)   I meant for Taxpayer 1 (you) to use your actual 2023 AGI, and for your spouse to use a 2023 AGI of 0.

Do NOT use an AGI of 1 for either of you.

Sorry if I confused you by using the term "Taxpayer 1" for the primary filer.   I can't guarantee that will work.  But it's at least something to try.

I’ll try it. Quick question, I’m trying to amend my 2024 taxes to add her into them to file jointly. So why would I need to use 2023’s agi?

Oh, wow!  That's a whole different ballgame!  You didn't state any of that in your original question.    So we assumed you were just filing a normal joint return for the first time.  So did you previously file a 2024 return on your own, and were those codes you posted from efiling an amended return?

 What filing status did you use on your original 2024 return?   If you efiled that one, was that one accepted?  If you are filing an amended return, then you can ignore anything I've posted above, which was for the routine efiling of an original return, not an amended one.  Just hold off for now until you get additional help.

It's still not clear what all you've done.  I'm a fellow user, not a tax expert.   I'll try to get tax expert @RobertB4444 to return to the thread today to see if he can help you straighten that out.   If one of the tax experts doesn't join in here, we can tell you how to phone TurboTax Support.
