Recent Life Changes - Death in Family

My father recently passed away in November of 2024, leaving me with his estate. There is not really full estate because his belongings were less than $100,000, leaving a nonprobated estate. He was only drawing on social security, so his income was less than what was necessary for him to file taxes.

My first question, will I need to input this information into Turbo Tax when I file? My husband and I have always used Turbo Tax to file our own taxes.

No.  You will not need to enter the less than $100,000 of inherited belongings on your return.

However, it would be a good idea to find out the value on the date of his death as well as find any receipts he had to show what he paid for the items.  This will help if you ever go to sell the property with determining your cost basis which will lower your gain on the sale.
