My spouse and I received a 1099-MISC from the State of California Tax Franchise Board, but I didn't save the letter explaining the reason. I'm pretty sure this is NOT a middle-class income credit, because I'm sure we make too much to qualify for that. My hazy recollection is that this was sent to correct for an error in overpayment of estimated or other taxes last year. But I can't be sure. So what do I put as the reason for this 1099-MISC? It seems like we should not be taxes like that is actual income, right?
Thank you--first timer doing my own taxes. I'm nervous about making a mistake!

It is unlikely that the the California Franchise Tax Board would report a tax refund on a Form 1099-MISC. Rather than guessing or speculating as to the reason for the payment, I suggest you go to My FTB Account and log in or create an account to find out exactly why you received the 1099-MISC, and therefore, how to report it. MyFTB gives individuals, business representatives, and tax professionals online access to tax account information and online services.
