What happens in September (besides Autumn)?
I was able to get another year of free updates from Microsoft. So no hurry to upgrade to W11.
I also found a video that showed step by step how to enroll for free Extended security updates (ESU) .

If you're OK with using TurboTax Online or switching to TaxAct or H&R Block, then you're good for this year.
"As of late 2025/early 2026, Windows 11 has overtaken Windows 10 globally, holding roughly 52-55% market share compared to Windows 10's 42-45%" (quoting AI)
Even if that number is down in the 30's now, that's a lot. I worked in the software industry and we always guaranteed our customers backward compatibility to the previous OS version. WIN 12 is still a couple of years away.
I'm not hearing any technical reasons why TT cant work , they just wont let it.
Shame on Intuit for forcing this issue.

That's because there isn't a technical reason why it can't work.
Clearly, there is some other rationale and, I suspect, it has something to do with liability or they just plain don't want to deal (customer service wise) with desktop customers running Windows 10.
IMHO - I understand that Europe and Canada are being allowed to use TurboTax Desktop with W10 on their machines, so obviously W10 itself is not the reason that Intuit is aligning with Microsoft on this. There is a financial reason. I do not know if there is an an arrangement between MS and Intuit, but certainly it is very much in MS interest to force users to get to W11. A $ arrangement between the 2 companies would be my suspect. Is it more $ advantageous to Intuit to force desktop users to switch to online TurboTax? Maybe.
@cwr64 wrote:...Is it more $ advantageous to Intuit to force desktop users to switch to online TurboTax?
100%. There is absolutely NO doubt about that, and the other tax prep software companies are trying to do the same.
ALSO (since I do not really know how to use this forum to post), I don't know how I posted - I don't exactly know how I did it. After I login, what steps (exactly) should I follow to create and post my issues? I am on W10 desktop PC.
Another question - I need to import some of my 2025 tax info from my financial institution (like Pershing or eQuipt) like I did last year on TurboTax Desktop. Can that be easily done with the online TurboTax?
My tax returns a fairly simple - me & spouse file joint, we own our home with no debts, and we have not itemized for some time.
Can the online TurboTax eFile for free as did last year's desktop software?
See my previous question (right above this one)
But one more question:
I have always imported previous year's tax data from my national financial institution (like Pershing, eQuipt). But, I see a list of qualifying import partners listed here:
https://www.intuit.com/partners/fdp/implementation-support/tax-import/program-overview/partner-list/
And the financial institution I have always imported from is not on the list. And, the list looks much smaller than I would have thought. Why is mine not listed? Am I looking at the wrong list?

Isn't Pershing Bank of New York - Pershing now? BNY-Pershing? I think that's supported and eQuipt is Osaic which is supported.

oooops - I did not notice that there was a separate "column" for 1099 partners. My bad.
@cwr64 re "Can the online TurboTax eFile for free as did last year's desktop software?"
If you are going to try the TT online route, Intuit has an offer if you buy desktop you can switch to online premier for Fed+State for no extra cost. (this offer is open to everyone not just Win 10 - another example where Intuit is certainly pushing towards online rather than desktop which was likely a big factor in the Win 10 decision). When you try installing it on Win 10 it would show the window below. I suppose you can just buy the Deluxe version to get this offer.
Online is not the same workflow/experience as desktop; it has no forms mode and you can only prepare 1 return per account, it's not like desktop where you can do multiple returns or play around with it later in the year. But I believe online has more capabilities than desktop to upload or import from documents, see blog post below.
See here for the offer details
I followed your link and did sign in.
That takes me to a page with lots of links and tons of FAQ.
But it does not directly take me to instructions I can follow to create and post my question. How do I do that - exactly? I am on a W10 desktop PC
