Will I receive a stimulus check if I put on my tax return that someone can claim me as a dependent, but no one ended up claiming me on their return?

Hey There;

Well, "they" won't know that no one claimed you.

I am pretty sure you would have to file an amended return, which, sadly, must be done physically like through the mail an all that.

You can call the IRS, though there staff is down because of this shelter at home thing, they likely are not THAT busy because of the extended deadline.

Good Luck

Hello again

Rereading your question, maybe i miss understood.

I don't think the Covid Stimulus check has anything to do with what you put on your tax return. Everyone gets the check or edeposit  regardless of anything as long as you are under $75,000 annually.

Cheers

The IRS will issue a stimulus check to a taxpayer if:

  • Have a Social Security number.
  • Have filed taxes in 2018 or 2019, or don't earn enough to file but receive Social Security payments.
  • Earned less than $99,000 for single filers, $136,500 for heads of household, or $198,000 for married filers according to the most recent tax return filed.
  • Are not claimed by someone else as a dependent.

You may want to try researching your IRS account with the IRS Get My Payment application.  This new IRS application will allow you to:

  • Check your payment status,
  • Confirm your payment type such as direct deposit or check,
  • Enter your bank account information for direct deposit if the IRS does not have your direct deposit information and has not sent your payment yet.
