Credit card debt is not shown or entered on a tax return.

Yes I understand that. However last year when we filed on TurboTax, after we submitted the return it showed us an accumulated debt. It showed our mortgage, etc and also a credit card. That card however was in both names. So I’m wondering if a debt will show it it’s only in one name, and not the primary one. Thanks for your help.

You can get your free credit reports from the site below (they should be more accurate).

I think you are referring to the credit report obtained using the Turbo website here - https://turbo.intuit.com/

On a joint credit card account both parties are responsible for any credit card debt.  A credit card can also have a primary user and it can have an authorized user.  Only the primary user is responsible for the debt.

In the case of a joint credit card account the debt will be on both parties credit report.  In the case of having an authorized user, that user may or may not have credit card debt on their report.  It is dependent on how the card company reports authorized users to the credit bureaus.

Go to this website for information concerning primary and authorized users - https://www.nerdwallet.com/blog/authorized-users/
