You do not say when your spouse passed away. If your spouse passed away in 2023, you can file a joint return for 2023. If your spouse passed away in an earlier year, like 2022 or before , you now file as single unless you have a qualifying dependent that would allow you to file as a surviving spouse. Provide some details so we can be more helpful.

I have a similar issue. I do have dependents, but I still don't see where to change my status. It asked me when my husband passed, but when I said he was deceased it didn't ask about my status. Where do I change my status?
Your filing status is entered in MY INFO.
I'm not sure if you understand what I said. Questions about my dependents and my husband is in MY INFO, so I was already there.
@DeeDD You added on to someone else's post, so your situation is unclear here. Did your spouse pass away in 2023? Or in some earlier year? If your spouse passed away in 2023 you can still file a joint return for 2023. If he passed away in an earlier year---for two years after the year of his death, you can file as a qualifying surviving spouse IF you have qualified dependents. You enter or edit your filing status in MY INFO.
