I am 26 years old and have been attending Graduate School in TX for the last two years. My parents live in OK and I have left my address the same as theirs for mail purposes while in Graduate School. While in Texas I have been renting an apartment, paying utilities and earning an income. All income earned has been in TX. In addition, I failed change my drivers license until this month, Feb. 2020. I graduated in August 2019, stayed in TX, then accepted a full time position in October 2019 in TX. Do I only file a TX federal tax return, or do I need to file an OK state return too given I did not change my address on my W-2 with the University and employer while in school? I do have one W-2 with the correct address. I'm just not sure given TX does not have a state tax, but OK does.

There is no state income in Texas, so no return has to be filed there. You may need to file a part-year resident for Oklahoma for 2019, but this will be your last tax return for OK.
Generally, you're a resident of a state if you don't intend to be there temporarily. Your resident state is where home is—where you come back to after being away on vacation, business trip, or school. It sounds like you were a resident of Oklahoma while you were a student but you became a Texas resident when you accepted a full-time job in Texas (your residence is no longer temporary at that point). Before that, you were only temporarily in Texas due to school and still a resident of OK. The date your residence state changed is the day that you decided you would not be returning home to OK.

How to get it right in TurboTax - How do I file a part-year state return?
Thank you for your response. Actually, I did not plan to move back to my parents home in Oklahoma. In fact, I did not go to their home during breaks other than to briefly visit during the holidays. If I were to go on a trip, TX would be the home I returned to. My residence has been in TX since 8-2017 where I paid rent and utilities. As far as the university and my bank accounts, I just left their address in OK on the statements because I never thought to change it due to them being electronic. However, my 1099DIV and 1098T from the bank and university have my parents address in OK on them even though I have been in TX since 2017 with no plans to move back. I know TX does not have a State tax, but OK does. Given my W-2 from work at the university, 1099DIV and 1098T have an Oklahoma address on them, am I expected to file an OK return even though I haven't lived there since 2017? I should note that I have filed an OK return up to 2018 filing because I knew I had to live in TX for 1 year to establish residence. In 2019 I would think that would be satisfied. My concern is, how will OK look at the W-2 from my work at the university, 1098T and 1099DIV with the OK address on the forms? Thank you again for any guidance you can give.
If those addresses are ever brought up, you can only explain your intentions as you have here.
Do you have a voter registration care in Texas? Have you voted in Texas?
Have you signed a long-term rental agreement in Texas to demonstrate your intentions?
