Where is the form 8915-f for 2023 filing of 2022 taxes?

I deleted the forms like I was supposed to but now my $$ numbers do not populate in the fields.  I deleted the qualifying distribution form first but then 8915F wasn't there to delete.  Now what?!

Where is the form 8915-f for 2023 filing of 2022 taxes?

It's March 10 and the 8915T is still not available. I got the email on march 9th that it is available. It's not there. Does anyone know when it will be there?

Yep it moved until March 9th and it's still not on there.

OMG @J_34

I was on the phone w/ turbotax support and suggested deleting 8915F to regenerate it, and it wasn't going away. Turbo tax support said it's a known issue and to try in 3 days. Taking your instructions when I clicked delete on 2020 disaster form it deleted 8915F! and now when I regenerate the 8915F is doesn't have the coronavirus text in the FEMA code, and can resubmit.  LOL you are the real turbo tax support.

How did you regenerate the form?  My will not work and no longer populates the numbers from for 8915-F

@Chucker444  if you took a cornovirus distribution from your 401k you will need to refill the form 8915. To do this go back to income, retirement and click continue and then it will ask you about if you took a disaster distribution. Eventually, it will ask you to fill in the details from your 2021 8915 then it will regenerate the form.

Where is the form 8915-f for 2023 filing of 2022 taxes?

I have done that about 100 times since yesterday and there are no new questions. It's the same questions that have been on there since January. I spent 2 hours yesterday talking to a tax expert yesterday. They couldn't find them either. Every time I answer the questions that are there it tells me that I need to go back and answer the questions under the tax topic retirement even though that's what I had just finished answering. Should I delete the whole thing and restart?

Just adding my two cents. I had the same issue with my return being rejected due to Form 8915-F having invalid information populated by TurboTax. Getting a support call got me nowhere, but based on the advice of others in this thread I was able to delete the two related forms that were mentioned, and then went through the retirement income section once again. This time I was successful in getting line C to be clear and box D to be checked. To delete the forms, you go to the Tools section in the sidebar, and there is a link to delete a form. Just got confirmation as well that my return was accepted by the IRS.

Very frustrating that instead of getting a solution from Turbo Tax itself I had to get it from here, and very frustrating that after weeks of waiting they didn't iron out all the issues with the form itself. I've been a loyal customer for around 15 years, but this is the last year. Can't support a tax software if I can't have confidence that the forms are being filled out correctly behind the scenes.

54 minutes on the phone with support and it only took this message to see how to fix it.  The only thing throwing me off was that those numbers from 2021 automatically populated during the first attempt and I was thinking they were coming from the 8915-F form which I couldn't find.  I should have been reading it better.  I could have just looked at my 2021 return to get them.    But then again, I could have filed my taxes with a chisel and stone tablet and had my return faster than turbo tax the past few years.

How can this be fixed in the online version if I have already paid TT and have had my return rejected (due to N/A being populated on line C)?

There's no way to delete the form in the online version....and I know I can't delete my return and start over since I've already paid.

Anyone in the same boat? What do we do?

Yes you can delete them on the online version.   Scroll up on this chat.  Someone tells you exactly what to do.  It is under tools and delete forms.  Delete both the 8915 and the 2020 disaster forms.  Then go back to income and start the retirement withdrawal section over.  Just remember that when you get to the question about 2020 disaster that you answer yes and check the box that it was COVID related.  It will not popluate the numbers for you again.  You will have to refer back to your 2021 8915 form to get them.  When you did this previously the numbers automatically poplulated.  They likely will not this time. They didn't for me, anyway.  Might as well download your 2021 return first so you have them ready.

So I deleted the forms and did manually like you said haven't been rejected yet so crossing fingers! The n/a that was on the FEMA line did disappear

Where is the form 8915-f for 2023 filing of 2022 taxes?

Please try these steps to fix the rejection issue as outlined by Turbo Tax expert DanaB27 in her following post.

  1. Login to your TurboTax Account
  2. Click on the "Search" on the top and type “1099-R”
  3. Click on “Jump to 1099-R”
  4. If you do not have any 2022 1099-R answer "No" to "Did you get a 1099-R in 2022?" (If you have any other 1099-R then enter all 1099-R and after entering your last 1099-R click "Continue" on the “Review your 1099-R info” screen)
  5. Answer "Yes" to the "Have you ever taken a disaster distribution before 2022?" screen
  6. Answer "Yes" to "Did you take a 2020 Qualified Disaster Distribution?"
  7. Uncheck the box next to "If this was a Coronavirus-related distribution reported in 2020 check here" and click continue
  8. On the "Which disaster affected you in 2020?" screen I selected the blank entry and click "back
  9. Then recheck the box next to "If this was a Coronavirus-related distribution reported in 2020 check here" and continue.

Another option is to delete "Form 8915-F" and "Qualified 2020 Disaster Retirement Distr" and then go back to the retirement section and reenter the information:

  1. Open or continue your return in TurboTax.
  2. In the left menu, select "Tax Tools" and then "Tools".
  3. In the pop-up window Tool Center, select "Delete a form".
  4. Select "Delete" next to "Form 8915-F" and "Qualified 2020 Disaster Retirement Distr" and follow the instructions.
  5. Click on the "Search" on the top and type “1099-R”
  6. Click on “Jump to 1099-R”
  7. If you do not have any 2022 1099-R answer "No" to "Did you get a 1099-R in 2022?" (If you have any other 1099-R then enter all 1099-R and after entering your last 1099-R click "Continue" on the “Review your 1099-R info” screen)
  8. Answer "Yes" to the "Have you ever taken a disaster distribution before 2022?" screen
  9. Answer "Yes" to "Did you take a 2020 Qualified Disaster Distribution?"
  10. Check the box next to "If this was a Coronavirus-related distribution reported in 2020 check here" and enter your information.

Please let me know if this worked for you.

Where is the form 8915-f for 2023 filing of 2022 taxes?

Your position was my exact position. If you go back through the posts here, there is one where I posted some snippets of screen shots.

All of my comments were what I found with my ONLINE VERSION.  Someone using downloaded software could be similar but probably not the same.

TT generates tax forms based on the questions you answer and dollar figures you put in their "customer friendly" format. You do not manually create a form and then fill it out.  When you go to fill out the section under federal income/retirement and 1099R , you will get questions concerning disaster distributions. this is what will generate a 8915F and you can see it by going to the print center and downloading/viewing it.  Once it has been made incorrectly, it apparently will not remove current data on that form unless you go and delete both of those forms, and refill things out again.

Side note.. when you are re entering your distribution income info which seems lengthy, make sure you finish out the section far enough. I do not know at what point TT decides to create the form. I finished out the income section and hit continue like I was going into deductions and then got out to check the 8915F in the print section.

What worked for me, has worked for others... it is doable but is what I would consider a "work around". If you wait a while, I would expect someone at TT to "fix" it, or make it more automatic.

I am not an expert, I just have spent WAY to much time poking at TT this year.
