When will the 2021 8915-f form be available on Turbo Tax to efile?

I do exactly how you have listed but I still see this 'Needs Review' once I go through all the steps. Any idea what does this means or how to fix this?8915-E.JPG

When will the 2021 8915-f form be available on Turbo Tax to efile?

@mimranbeig

Go back through the Form 1099-R section and make sure that you entered the 2nd year of the distribution amount in both boxes shown.

If the 2020 distribution was from an account that was Not an IRA

Enter 1/3 of the amount from the 2020 distribution in both boxes for Line 9

2020 Form 8915E, line 9, if you checked the box on that line, enter 0

2020 Form 8915E Line 9

If the 2020 distribution was from an IRA account

Enter 1/3 of the amount from the 2020 distribution in both boxes for Line 17

2020 Form 8915E, line 17, if you checked the box on that line, enter 0

2020 Form 8915E Line 17

Also, after completing the Wages & Income section you will land on a screen Did you take a disaster distribution at any time between 2018 and 2020?

Answer NO since you have already completed the entering the 1/3 of the 2020 distribution.

When will the 2021 8915-f form be available on Turbo Tax to efile?

After you've entered the info as the instructions showed, go to the word "FORMS" in the upper right corner and click on that, go to the 1040 form on the left side list. Scroll down to see the $$$ on the line for the amount you may have entered. The only trick here is getting the correct numbers from the 2020 return form 8915-E to the corresponding line#'s in this years interview.

Then all we have to do is remember next year what we did this year. Good Luck to all.

I also have the same exact problem. No matter what I do "NEEDS REVIEW" doesn't go away. I read all the answers on this board and did exactly what the "experts" say and it doesn't go away and I see so many people have the same problem and TURBOTAX refuses to help. If this problem doesn't get resolved by tomorrow I am moving to another app after using turbotax for over a decade. We waited almost until the deadline for this stupid form to be included and it doesn't work. We had similar problems and turbotax doesn't help and repeat the same answers. I am really bored with seeing thie "needs review".

Did you follow this procedure exactly -

You must go to the Retirement Income section of the program for a Form 1099-R to be able to enter your 2nd year of the 2020 distribution -

Click on Federal

Click on Wages & Income

Scroll down to Retirement Plans and Social Security

On IRA, 401(k), Pension Plan Withdrawals (1099-R), click on the Start or Revisit button

On the screen Did you get a 1099-R in 2021? Click on NO, if you did not receive a 2021 Form 1099-R in 2022

Answer Yes when asked Have you ever taken a disaster distribution before 2021?

Answer Yes when asked if you took a Qualified 2020 Disaster Distribution

Check the box that this was a Coronavirus-related distribution reported in 2020

In the box 2020 Form 8915-E, line 4, column b - Leave blank or enter a 0

This is not required on a Form 8915-F for a Coronavirus-related distribution

If the 2020 distribution was from an account that was Not an IRA

Enter 1/3 of the amount from the 2020 distribution in both boxes for Line 9

2020 Form 8915E, line 9, if you checked the box on that line, enter 0

2020 Form 8915E Line 9

If the 2020 distribution was from an IRA account

Enter 1/3 of the amount from the 2020 distribution in both boxes for Line 17

2020 Form 8915E, line 17, if you checked the box on that line, enter 0

2020 Form 8915E Line 17

Do not enter anything in the other boxes, leave them blank (empty)

The 1/3 of the amount from the 2020 distribution will be entered on the 2021 Form 1040 Line 4b if from an IRA or on Line 5b if from a retirement plan other than an IRA

After completing the Wages & Income section you will land on a screen Did you take a disaster distribution at any time between 2018 and 2020?

Answer NO since you have already completed the entering the 1/3 of the 2020 distribution.

You can view your Form 1040 at any time using the online editions. Click on Tax Tools on the left side of the online program screen. Click on Tools. Click on View Tax Summary. Click on Preview my 1040 on the left side of the screen.

Using the desktop editions click on Forms.  Open the Form 1040

NOTE - During Federal Review you may get a notice to check an entry.  Clicking Check Entries takes you to the Check This Entry screen showing a box for entering a FEMA Disaster name.  Put your cursor in the box (click in the box) and then click on the spacebar.  Click on Continue  On the following screen Run Smart Check Again click on Done.

The Form 8915-F you completed already has the box for the Coronavirus checked on Item D of the form.

As stated on the Form 8915-F -

If your disaster is the coronavirus, check this box ▶ Don’t list the coronavirus in item C.

I sent you a private message with a question. We can share the fix after we figure out what the problem is.

When will the 2021 8915-f form be available on Turbo Tax to efile?

@DoninGA  has the steps listed correctly. I was not able to get rid of that 'Needs review' so ended up calling turbotax. They couldn't fix it either, we tried deleting and adding it back and a few other things. In the end, since it was not an issue, they advised me to file it with the warning message.

When will the 2021 8915-f form be available on Turbo Tax to efile?

Thank you!!. I was getting super frustrated with TT not updating their system after 3/31/22 when the 8915-F was supposedly included in the online and desktop version. My probably is not enter the 1/3 payment on "BOTH" line 9. If you enter in one or the other line 9, TT will not recognize that you are trying to include 1/3 of the covid distribution.  Your post saved me countless hours and heartache!

When will the 2021 8915-f form be available on Turbo Tax to efile?

I think the problem people are having with the "needs review" issue is they're putting a spacebar entry in the wrong box. I was entering the spacebar in the disaster name box above the form and it would would work but when I enter a spacebar in the disaster number box on the actual form it worked. Does this make sense Don?

When will the 2021 8915-f form be available on Turbo Tax to efile?

The form 8915-F has been finalized by the IRS and TurboTax has programmed the system to file the return.  You should be able to e-file your return now.

Here is how to access the form 8915-F for TurboTax:

  1. Login to your TurboTax Account
  2. Click on the Search box on the top and type “1099-R”
  3. Click on “Jump to 1099-R”
  4. If you do not have any 2021 1099-R answer "No" to "Did you get a 1099-R in 2021?" (If you have any other 1099-R then enter all 1099-R and after entering your last 1099-R click "Continue" on the “Review your 1099-R info” screen)
  5. Answer "Yes" to the "Have you ever taken a disaster distribution before 2021?" screen

When will the 2021 8915-f form be available on Turbo Tax to efile?

I also constantly get the "needs review" even when I am answering all questions correctly, per instructions on this page.  I talked to someone from TT last night, and all they did was go through the help boards just like I am doing.  Is this a software problem?

I did notice that my 2020 figure in my summary indicates the full amount of the withdrawal, even though I chose three installments.  My return from last year has the one-third amount on line 11 as the "amount subject to tax."  I did a test and re-entered my 2020 1099-R, and the "needs review" went away, but then it also taxed me on the full amount of the withdrawal.  Help!
