When will the 2021 8915-f form be available on Turbo Tax to efile?

Agree that it is working, #'s add up I triple checked, as I am having a unique tax year and I am making sure I am prepared if the IRS comes knocking.

And honestly the IRS is far too busy to deal with putting CARES Act there IMO.

-it is an accurate classification and if it is incorrect, it is non-financial in nature, further pushing this to the bottom of an audit pile

To the recent topic: it made me enter a disaster name and now I can't find anywhere to remove it.

On a different topic: Have been running through this and just wanting to clarify.  The 1099 I received in 2020 had federal tax withheld and I split my distribution into 3 years.  The tax withheld was only applied to 2021 taxes?

Your 2020 return only taxed one third of your distribution and the remaining tax on the two third of it that was withheld must have refunded to you when you filed in 2021...

When will the 2021 8915-f form be available on Turbo Tax to efile?

Sorry but I am livid! We took out money due to Covid and spread it over three years on our taxes. Last year when we filed, we got a refund. This year it says we owe. WTF? The income amount from last year and this years is basically the same including the 1/3. What did I do wrong? How many times do they get to tax us on OUR money? Can someone explain why I would owe this year but not the first year I filed. TIA. Should I talk to a tax professional?

This is on the top of section IV (4)  only fill this out if this applies to why you took the funds from retirement account.

Before you begin: Complete this year’s Form 8606, Nondeductible IRAs, if required.
Part IV
Qualified Distributions for the Purchase or Construction of a Main Home in the Area of Disaster(s) Listed in Item C
Caution: Complete Part IV if, this year, you received a qualified distribution (as defined in the instructions) for a disaster listed in item C earlier. If you repay the distribution, in whole or in part, after this year, see the instructions. For the applicability of Part IV to other years for disasters listed in item C, see the instructions.

according to these instructions, if you split over 3 years, you want to leave the total distribution line (4b) empty. only input line 9 (twice) for this years 1/3 payment amount. this will also remove the request to enter a disaster name/number

@Chris1976

Your best action was to apply a good chunk of that refund in 2020 to the next year 2021.

You didn't do that.

Too late now.

In 2022 you will again owe about what you are owing in 2021, all else being equal.

If the IRA distribution that you receive in 2020 and chose to split it for three years was pre-taxed, then Your 2020 return was only taxed for one third of your distribution and the remaining tax on the two third of it that was withheld must have refunded to you when you filed in 2021... Now for 2021 you owe the tax on the second one third of your 2020 distribution...

Now beyond the 8915-F, my return has been rejected twice since the AGI is apparently not matching; which it is asI am looking at my 2020 1040 while doing this.

An odd little cycle and I am not sure how the AGI can be verified for many Americans as the IRS has a backlog of returns; they cashed my check last year, but as the CP-80 notice that I got and many did too the return is not technically received/logged into the system yet.

On my third try, in "Pending" status now for longer than the other two denials, hahaha

Also if there was tax withholding in 2020 (box 4 on your 2020 1099-R) then that cannot be split and carried to 2021 but would be applied to 2020 tax and could add to the 2020 refund.     There would be no similar tax withheld for 2021 so you would need to make 2021 estimated tax payments to account for it so there would not be any underpayment penalty.

When will the 2021 8915-f form be available on Turbo Tax to efile?

@DONNIE67

The IRS website lets you print your transcripts for prior years.  That would let you see what they have as your AGI for last year.  Also, if you had unemployment income in 2020 and filed your return before the February 2020 bill passed that let you exclude unemployment income up to some amount, the IRS didn't require refiling but corrected it on their end.  Another potential reason why your records may not line up with their records.

Thank but I am looking at my 2020 1040 and have the exact #.

As you may have seen or will, to on TT to Efile, TT asks you if the IRS has processed your return, with three responses

1. Yes

2. No

3. I don't know

CP-80 and IRS confirmed the back log and that my return form 2020 was not processed.

-I spoke with the IRS shortly after getting my CP-80 in the mail.

So far I have entered "I don't know" this is ending up as being rejected three times now.

When I answer "No" TT defaults all income, which is the accurate $ amount,  to my spouse only, not me: this you can edit but TT hits you with this

"Only select this option if you're sure that the IRS doesn't have a 2020 tax return on file". With a "Did Not File" status next to my spouse.

Total cycle of failure anyone else having this issue who mailed in their 2020 return?
