When will the 2021 8915-f form be available on Turbo Tax to efile?

I just got off the phone with Turbo Tax. The rep looked up the expected date on Google. The rep was helpful,  extremely good natured, sympathetic and human.  But after maybe 15 years with Turbo Tax, I am considering switching companies.  I'm looking at Ramsey SmartTax - one of their employees emailed me personally on 3-2-22 that SmartTax is able to e-file the 8915-F.

Quote: I just followed up with the SmartTax team and they do have the ability to E-File the 8915F form. Here’s what you do to navigate in the app to do this:

·  Federal Section

·  Income (Select My Forms)

·  8915-F

@Ducky1 Totally inappropriate and shows you have tenuous grip on personal ethics.

So is it just bad manners and no class? or are you paid by this other company to come here and be "helpful" and drive business away from their competitor?

@Basin - You are done.  You did not carry income forward. Finished!  (if you paid the full tax liability last year as you say)

Maybe he's just trying to help others who are annoyed with how long turbo tax is taking. Are you paid by turbo tax?

If you spread the tax over three years, you need Form 8915-F.   If you did not spread the tax (you paid it all on the 2020 return), you should not need to wait for the form.   You need the form if  you had:

  • Qualified 2020 disaster distributions made in 2021 (coronavirus-related distributions can't be made after December 30, 2020);

  • Repayments of qualified 2020 disaster distributions;

  • Income in 2021 and later years from qualified 2020 and later disaster distributions; and

  • Qualified distributions received on January 1, 2021, for the Washington (8593-DR-WA) disaster.

What is Form 8915-F Qualified 2021 Disaster Retirement Plan Distributions and Repayments?

@Basin

And @Ducky1  -  TurboTax does support e-filing Form 8915-F; it is scheduled to be ready for e-filing on 03/31.

When will the 2021 8915-f form be available on Turbo Tax to efile?

@Anonymous thanks. Is there a way to

confirm? I looked at my return last year and I don’t have the box checked to spread across 3 years. I figured that would cover it.

Why would we want to wait until 3/31 when all of these other providers are able to have it available a month or more before turbo tax?

If you reported the full distribution and did not spread the tax, that means you paid the full amount of tax on that distribution.   You don't have any income to report from the distribution on this year's return, so you don't need Form 8915-F.   If you look at last year's return, you should see the full amount of the distribution on Line 4a or 5a and the taxable amount on Line 4b or 5b.   If the taxable amount is only 1/3 of the distribution amount, you spread the tax and need the form.   If the same amount is on both lines, you didn't spread the tax and don't need the form.  @Basin

@Basin look at last years 8915-C, but if you claimed additional income  equal to the total distribution on the corresponding 1099, and added it to all other income, and paid tax on the entire additional amount, then you are good to go

When will the 2021 8915-f form be available on Turbo Tax to efile?

Yes, I definitely need the form. I have four options:

1. Wait up to 30 days, pay a higher tax prep fee because I missed the discount deadline, and have to postpone applying for other financial assistance

2. File my taxes on-line now, and amend them later and have to fill out more forms and pay more fees, and have to send in money after getting a refund

3. File my taxes by mail

4. Switch companies

I wish I had a dime for every time I have raved about and recommended Turbo Tax to others over the last 15 years.

That does not seem to be as user friendly as TT.  In TT you don"t have to do anything to navigate to the form, once it"s been implemented. You are taken there automatically at the right time.

Turbo Tax is stating because I have a 8915/A/B/D form on my return, it can only be filed via mail...I have deleted this form because it does not apply to me but it's still saying its part of my return and can't be e-filed... any ideas??

When will the 2021 8915-f form be available on Turbo Tax to efile?

Actually it's easy to miss, I had no IRA income/withdrawals so if I hadn't known better  I would have skipped it!

If you had no IRA withdrawals in 2020 you wouldn't need to do the form.
