If you paid back 2/3 in 2020 you have a carryforward amount to report for 2021.
Why are you so anxious to file an incomplete and incorrect tax return ?
It was Congress in the first place that came up with the idea of spreading tax over three years.
The result was a lot of complexity.
TurboTax Online Premier could not calculate my tax due correctly when I had a basis in my IRA.
I tried other tax software and they each gave a different but also incorrect result. That was three different wrong answers to the same tax data.
I finally found one that did it correctly, but they had a different unrelated error in calculation of tax due so I could not file there either!
I tried 2020 TurboTax Online again around Oct 15, and it was still giving the incorrect calculation.
Maybe they (IRS + TurboTax) are more anxious to ensure the calculations are correct this time around. Maybe?
@txmet where did you get your info on HR&Block..?! I chatted with one of their agent today. She said she thinks Form 8915-F will be ready in early March and even when that is done you won’t be able to file electronically if you have to file the form. You need to print your return and mail it to IRS…!
It appears it is available on the IRS website
that's interesting! So why can't Turbo Tax upload the software so we can get the taxes done?
@nettmann i was on H&R block last night trying out their online software - they have a link to a list right in their online software of forms and availability, and the 8915 F (according to that) for H&R block online software will be 2-25. though it did not specify whether it would be for e-file or not, just the availability date.
@abbz3rs
I contacted my local H&R Block because I have been on the fence for the last few weeks about waiting for 3/31 or going elsewhere. Anyway, the lady told me that form 8915-F would be available on 2/25 for E-filing and with tax pros. As much as I hate to leave TT since I’ve been with them for 10 years I decided to make an appointment and go in to H&T block. Maybe next tax season I’ll come back but I just can’t wait that long and I’m super irritated that they are most likely waiting that long so their promotional stuff ends. If other company’s have it out by next week then TT should too…
I agree....I was just in chat with TT and they said right now it says 3/31 but that can change.....Im going to check again next week
Yep, sadly it’s a choice you have to make. We made the choice to delete the form for 2016, file on 2/10 and our refund will be DD 2/24.
@KH0981 - Honestly, I don't think that is why. Very cynical view. I don't think they would trade customer satisfaction and future repeat business for a relative small number of people who are going to get a promotional rate.
The project manager did not go into the meeting and say, "OK we are going to hold up the 8915-F so that group of our customers will have to pay more for their service."
Think about it, that was some other troll on here planting the seed, and then it just spreads. That's why I'm on the trolls so hard, you let that stuff sit without challenging it, pretty soon you have people actually believing it.
So short answer that is NOT why they are doing it, though I won't say that may not be a consequence of the delay. Big difference.
Well you have to think that it’s awful fishy that other companies are getting theirs out within this next week and for some reason TT is waiting until 3/31 when we only have until 4/15. Just ridiculous in my opinion and that is opinion. I do believe that their promotional agenda has something to do with this. You may think differently, but companies are companies and sometimes they could get a fart less how it affects people (I’m talking about every company) I’m not going to argue, but at this point in time I’m really looking at going elsewhere… I’ll give it another week and continue to monitor the chats, I do hate to leave after 10 years but I also want to get this done and over with. It’s amazing everyone wants their money but we continue to be royally screwed each and every year.
@KH0981 - Ok, do I need a tinfoil hat to understand your opinion?
You are saying that Intuit is intentionally delaying Form 8915-F in order to have the promotion expire so that a small group of people in this tax situation (people that have repaid a portion of their CARES distribution back) will have to pay more?
Did that sum it up? I'll tell you what if you believe that you should drop their software immediately, never buy their product again, and just leave the forum. I mean if you think the company is doing that it would be hard to justify staying with them.
"form 8915-F would be available on 2/25 for E-filing and with tax pros"____ So how does this work?! You take your HR&Block Tax software (on a thumb drive?) ready to be efiled except for form 8915-F to their office and the agent there adds form 8915-F to your software and then efile it to IRS & your State...?! The charge you 60 bucks...?
Did the Lady tell you when the Form 8915-F be available to public for private efiling...? Thanks
@nettmann Before I’m called a troll or whatever names as people have being doing throughout this chat. I’ve used TT for 10 years and I don’t want to switch however I’m looking at other options I have contact TT yesterday and they are still stating 3/31 for a release of many forms including 8915-F, I have done some research and I encourage everyone to do that for themselves! For pricing with H&R I think it depends on how complicated your taxes are I believe for a tax consultant starts off at $80 and then you can add-on other things if you wish, they claim they will give you up front pricing before you being (according to their FAQ and Website)
I just called my local office again to clarify for me and the lady told me 2/25 is the release date for e-filing with tax professionals, but the form is currently active online for clients, meaning if you want to file without talking/seeing someone you should be able to do so now, which I’m looking into.
I agree with you. I have been using TT for 5 years and I feel very disappointed with their service and much higher charges. I also did my taxes on HR& Block for comparison and there's a substantial cost difference meaning HR is lower. I have not filed yet because of form 8915-F but once it is available on both sites. I will make my decision.
