@Amok You need to wait until whomever you decide to use as that form properly implemented in theri software! You are going to make yourself sick worrying about how to report this and file and when the form is NOT EVEN implemented.
While your answer is correct, we went down that rabbit hole last year. Filed an Amended return in late May, IRS received it in June, and there is sits among the 2 million in amended returns the IRS hasn't touched. They owe us $900 going on 9 months now. My advice is to avoid amended returns at all costs if you can avoid it, for now anyway.
@asbnj - absolutely agree, file your extension, wait for your preferred tax provider to have the forms you need, don't stress.
Be careful before you put yourself in complicated tax situations, if you don't have patience or finances to wait to file.
Msromike YOU ARE WRONG in your statement. Freetaxusa absolutely has the 8915f form on there. I filed last week with them, and was accepted by the IRS. Oh, and please call me a troll. You seem to be fascinated with that word!
@Ohioboy2022 - read up about 10 posts or so, you will find @Amok seems to be having trouble using Free Tax Hires Shills . com to do his taxes in the context of Form 8915. The form is there, but what good is it if Amok can't figure it out?
BTW I only call someone a troll when they are one. You are not one, it's really not hard to tell the difference.
Msromike the thing is, is Covid almost destroyed my life financially. I went from 60hrs a week working, to almost nothing. I had to take a large amount out of my 401k to survive. With that being said, I originally came on here like many others, for the first time In my life, trying to find some answers for when the 8915F form would be available. After discovering that it could potentially be 6 more weeks away, I like others, cannot wait that long for the tax return. Any other time in my life, sure, no problem, when it comes, it comes, but I am counting on that money now, at this point. I never even heard of free tax place before last week. And I decided to use it, and as of this moment, everything is going through the process. It was accepted by the IRS. And I'm very thankful that this is the case. I've had zero issues with TurboTax, and I still don't. I just find it incredibly annoying that you seem to be making it your personal mission to discredit, or make people 2nd guess going through them by calling us trolls, or free tax hires shrills or whatever u said. So far, every thing went smoothly, and if I listened to your negatively, I might still be waiting 6 weeks to file, and probably months to get my return back if I wait for TurboTax.
And the 8915F form is in "other income " section on free tax usa
every year, same stupid BS from Turbotax - get it together.
Because most of them are trolls. Disinformation to drive business to the other site. I'm still on the fence about you as to whether or not you are a troll.
I have doubts though, because someone in the situation you just described probably owes the IRS money at this point. So, how does filing sooner rather than later help the situation you just described?
Sus
I have one other thing to say, then I'm probably done with this thread. People may ask.. If you filed already with another tax site, why come on here? Well, I come back on here because if there's one person reading all this, that went through 2020 like I did, were we almost lost everything, and me maybe having someone realize, that there are other options out there to file now, and get your return possibly months faster, then do it. I did. Ok, I'm done now.
@Ohioboy2022 I was in the same situation and I’m sure many others were. I know for certain that the suggestions for other tax prep options from multiple people on this thread has helped some people who have been following it because it definitely helped me! If some don’t want to trust the other options or stray from TT that’s their choice and that’s perfectly fine but don’t let one person make you feel like you haven’t been a helpful resource for those who can’t wait for their refunds. In fact, thanks to everyone on this thread for contributing your opinions, I think we are all trying to help each other and that’s worth appreciating.
@Anonymous are you really asking what difference it makes to be able to file 6 weeks earlier? It means you get yoru return 6 weeks earlier, and for many people that makes a big difference. You called me a troll, which is not the case at all. I am still waiting for TT. I cannot use the other program people are recommending because I do not live in the USA and they do not do tax for expats like myself. But I am really wondering why you are on this thread fighting against us. Why not just join the chorus for TT to clear this up by either explaining why we have to wait so long when other companies have it, or telling us that it will be done sooner. We are just very disappointed that nobody from TT is clearly answering our concerns while so many people are asking the same questions.
msromike - Wow - you need to back off. Now you’re basically criticizing people for taking disaster withdrawals. I’m sure most people wish they didn’t need to take money from their retirement, but they’ve been dealing hard times.
You keep questioning why people are on this forum, but it seems the same question could be posed to you. If you don’t get forms you need to file until mid-March, then why are you all over this message board? These issues and questions about 8915-f don’t seem to be relevant to you now.
Bottom line, I hope you can read a room better in real life than on the internet, bro, otherwise…. Yikes!
First off @Anonymous don't come on this post being rude I don't need the refund I need my return to do financial aid for my daughter and 6 extra weeks is absurd. It actually was a joke to file early. But since you came on this post with your 2 cents I have time today. and you have no idea why ppl took disaster funds, I have every w-2 to file, and to wait 6 weeks because of one form is crazy TT needs to do better. So you and your 2 cents can be quiet.
Agree that the blind defense of Turbotax is as bad as accusing others of trolling. As a 10 year TT user, I literally came to this forum looking for an update on form 8915 f availability. Helpful suggestions lead me to check out other e-filing options. Having played with a few, I can say that TaxSlayer isn't user friendly or intuitive at all (and I don't recommend it) but they do have 8915 F ready to go, just like Freetaxusa. HR Block is almost as intuitive as TT but requiring a Tax Pro at $59.99 to even complete form 8915 F (which isn't even available yet) is absurd. It takes less than a minute to complete, you answer a series of questions and enter in 1/3 of the amount you took out in 2020. Easy peasy and certainly not worth a $60 upcharge. TT had 8915 E available mid February last year and there is no excuse for not having it ready this year. I'm in similar situation as others, as my wife is in a Nurse Practitioner program and we need to get the financial aid forms completed ASAP.
