why do you think you need it?
I am including interest for my savings bonds which matured in 2024; I am not redeeming the bonds so a 1099-INT is not provided. When I provide the info for the interest earned, I provided it using 1099-INT form and TurboTax requires a FEIN (it will not accept dummy digits or my social security number).
Try leaving the FEIN blank. If asked for it in Review, Continue past the error.
The 1099-INT form does not ask for FEIN, only Bank Name.
Tried leaving it blank , all zeros, and my SS# - each got flagged as an error. Past years, this was not a problem.
Basic question - does the U.S. Department of Treasury have a FEIN?
This appears to be more of a TurboTax issue.
Are you sure you need to report this interest? Since you didn't receive a 1099-INT, do you have a letter or other document stating you should report this each year? If so, a FEIN should be provided. Some interest only gets reported when bonds are redeemed.
If you're using TurboTax Online, clear your Cache and Cookies and retry entering your interest without a FEIN.
Here's more info on Interest Income Reporting from the Treasury Dept.
