This has been the solution to the most common school district error. Please follow the steps below.
Your return was rejected for E-File for having missing information on Federal form 1099R.
Go to the Federal 1099R screen under Retirement plans and social security.
At the bottom of the screen under State and Local information if box 14 state tax withheld or Box 17 Local tax withheld is greater than zero, then Box 15 State ID is OH box 15 payer ID is complete and State or local distribution must have a value greater than the state or local tax withheld.
If there is state withholding State distribution must have a value greater than the state w/H. If the state or local tax does not have an amount, then do not complete this section of the 1099R.
Do not put zeroes in the tax withheld or distribution fields. If necessary, make the appropriate change and re-submit this return electronically.
However, if the reject continues, you may want to file this return via U.S. Mail.
To file your state return, print it and mail it to the appropriate taxing authority.
ERROR - State distribution amount can't be blank and can't be less than the state tax withheld.
On my 1099-R from OPM I'm getting flaged by TT on Box 16
Box 14-State Tax Withheld = 1,800.00
Box 15- State ID = OH
Box 15-Payer's State No = 52xxxxxx
Box 16- stat Dist. Amt (is blank)
I am encountering the same problem on my Edward Jones 1099-R
Box 14-State Tax Withheld = 3,846.10
Box 15- State ID = OH
Box 15-Payer's State No = 52xxxxxx
Box 16- stat Dist. Amt = 0.00
I've tried with with zeros and deleting them and the error keeps popping up.
As for my wife's W2 TT did not import all the information correctly. She has 2 local communities the city that she works in and the town that we live in has a School District tax code. The school district was printed on a 2nd page of her W2. I did not catch this when I reviewed the import.

On any Form 1099-R where there is an amount in box 14, you must enter an amount in box 16. Try entering the amount from box 1 in box 16. This should clear the error.
Hello everyone
Well I ran TT a third time and it came out clean no errors. I double checked my wife's W2 and my 1099Rs and the problem with the Ohio entry on my SD100 form did not show up.
I know somewhere in all these emails someone answered this question but since I fixed my SD100 do I just mail it in or do I have to include both my State and SD100?
Thanks for all your help
You can mail it or select to e-file it again.
I will mail it but do I send in both state and school district or just school?
Again thank you
If you have already e-file the state return then mail only the SD return. If you have not then mail both returns.
