This just started happening for me as well after the most recent TT update. I hope they fix this bug soon.
Happened to me today as well... but... I do have W-2c on the way... company erred regarding Box 12c HSA contributions... I just wonder how TT knew about it...
I got the same message yesterday and did not defer any SS.
I am getting the same faulty notification "a W-2c is on the way". But my W-2 Box 4 $ divided by the Box 3 $ is 6.2% is as should be. I have tried to contact someone at TurboTax But TurboTax wants me to pay $90 for a consult! Ridiculous!!! FIX THE BUG!
This message was intended for individuals who deferred Social Security and/or certain self-employment taxes.
The issue has been resolved.
The Coronavirus, Aid, Relief and Economic Security Act (CARES Act) allows employers to defer the deposit and payment of the employer's share of Social Security taxes and self-employed individuals to defer payment of certain self-employment taxes. For more information on the Deferral of employment tax deposits and payments through December 31, 2020, click here.
Only customers who may legitimately receive a W-2C will get the pop-up.
Same issue. I guess I will just ignore it.
What does the full 8537.40 indicate? I am getting this message as well...
I just got this message as well. Husband and I didn't defer any social security. I think this is an error message, but may check with my employer before filing
Yes, this is an error message. The issue has been resolved.
For the tax year 2020, the maximum amount of wages subject to Social Security tax is $137,700.00. The tax is 6.2% of those wages which is $8,537.40 ($137,700 X .062 = $8,537.40). I didn't get this message so I don't know exactly what TurboTax is referring to.
I adjusted Box 4 on the W2 from 7338.40 to 7338.50 and the W-2c alert went away. I suppose it is a rounding error.
Still getting this error message and all my social security taxes were withheld.
Yes, in my case box 4 was the maximum of 8537.40. Sorry I didn't understand your post - does that mean I should expect a W2c? It is obviously less than 6.2% because it is capped - but would think TurboTax would know that. Any suggestions? Thanks for the help!
I am seeing the same issue of W-2c coming but I have checked all the work and the data is correct. My Box 3 is 137700 and box 4 has 8537.40 This is a bug in the software. Also seeing issues with ESPP... TurboTax is dropping the ball with bugs this time around.
I wouldn't expect you will get a w2-c. I assume your Box 3 was the max (i.e. $137,700.00) and box 4 is 6.2% of box 3 (as you say, the max of 8537.40).
In the end, I suspect you're having the same issue as most of us and this message is being displayed by mistake.
