Hello, I'm a student that filed their taxes around March 11th. My refund wasn't processed till the 26th and that same night I got my tax return (yay!). Unfortunately, because of the processing time I didn't receive the first wave of stimulus checks on the 17th of march or the 2nd wave on the 26th. This is my first time doing taxes and dealing with the stimulus check. Am I at a loss for getting it? I know I'm eligible and it still says "Payment Status Not Available". Am I being paranoid and it will update when it comes close to a possible upcoming drop?

if you are a student and CAN be claimed by someone else (your parents?), you are not eligible for any of the three stimulus payments.
Taxpayers that are not dependents of others are the only ones that receive stimulus payments.
Dependents never receive stimulus payments.
I haven't been claimed! 🙂
that isn't the point. it's not that you haven't been claimed, it's CAN you be claimed.
if you parents CAN claim you whether you are claimed or not is immaterial.
if you are a full time student, under the age of 24. living at home all year (and temporarily living at college is still living at home the way the IRS looks at it) and your parents provide over 50% of your support, you CAN be claimed by them. (and that 50% is not as simple to calculate as one would think).
OH okay, so therefore I'm ineligible after all?
I thought that as long as you weren't claimed as a dependent (I'm 20 years old), that fell under a certain amount of income that I was eligible, I know people my age who have received it.
it is admittedly very confusing....just because others received it doesn't mean it was lawful.
your parents always have the option of claiming you. The IRS doesn't care whether they do or dont.
But as the dependent, you don't have that same option. (look at the question on the tax return, when you indicate you are a student, it asks CAN you be claimed by others; it doesn't ask WERE you claimed by others). Your answer to the question CAN you be claimed is always the same, regardless of your parent's decision.
As a full time college student, your income has nothing to do with it.

Looking at my tax return, I didn't select that someone could claim me as a dependent.
I understand you didn't. The question is should you have? CAN someone else claim you?
You are required to file an honest, correct and accurate tax return under penalty of law.
