There seems to be an issue / bug with the Dependent Care Credit section. If you don't pick disabled or student it just restarts and doesn't let you enter information?

It lists 3 forms of criteria. Earned Income, Disabled and Student. But the check boxes are Student, Disabled or NONE. Possibly missing Earned Income? Selecting none restarts the process back to the checklist. I feel like it's missing a set of check marks.

Have you entered your income yet?  You need earned income. If married you both need earned income.  Make sure to enter each income under the right spouse.   If you have self employment income you need to show a profit on Schedule C (a loss doesn't count).   If you or your spouse doesn't have income then you need to be disabled or a student to qualify.

As Volvogirl suggests, TurboTax won't show you this screen unless you are filing married joint but at least one of you doesn't have any earned income (like from your W-2). In this case, Turbotax is asking to see if the spouse without earned income fits one of the exceptions. If you check "none" then you are indicating that one or both of you do not have earned income but that you also don't meet one of the exceptions.

So you had one or both of you not indicate any earned income, yet you answered that this person did not meet either of the exceptions. Make sense?

Perhaps you need to check that both spouses have earned income (allocating a W-2 to the wrong spouse is a frequent cause of this situation) or one spouse has a sole proprietorship (earned income if profitable) but you have not entered to yet so TurboTax is unaware that that spouse has earned income.

That was my problem! I was getting a head start by entering what data I have on hand, while waiting for my spouses w2. Thank  you!
