UPDATE: Today I received the direct deposit of my (originally rejected) $1100 for my child born in 2020. Just keep calling and be patient with who you get on the phone. It took far less than the 4-6 weeks originally quoted and it was an easy fix for them. Praise God it has finally been totally straightened out, I am sure all of you on here can get the same result for their mistake. If you get someone that doesn't know what's going at the IRS know that there are more and more ppl there understanding the mistake they made.
Thank you for posting this! Gave me the strength I needed to deal with having to call. 🙂
@jenEpoo that was my WHOLE reasoning for posting!
@Cfaithn When you were finally able to get someone that actually knew about the issue do you remember what number you called? Was it the one that was on the letter they sent?
@Lortiz2 Yes. It was just the number on the letter, I also gave the code on the letter when prompted. I know the first representative I got that originally helped (she tried to correct it but told me she couldnt until I received my refund via direct deposit in my bank account) was from accounts management. However, I didn't ask for that department that was just where I was sent automatically. It seems as if you may get ppl who hang up on you because they don't want to deal with the issue (happened to me), ppl who tell you the IRS made that decision and you aren't getting your money back (happened again) and then ppl who are willing to help. And really the challenge is just staying patient and persistent. I would say I called in about 20 times before it was finally resolved and was on hold countless hours BUT it was eventually corrected so totally worth it.
still no luck for me. Now Im being told that the irs transcript only has 4 lines for dependents so I won’t get the payment because i have 5 kids and so the baby doesnt show on the transcript only on my return.
@Lortiz2 so just so I know......you claimed the fifth child on your taxes and got the child tax credit for them correct, but got rejected for the recovery rebate credit of $1100 right? We have 5 children with our new baby being born in 2020 so they are completely wrong and you should just throw out that information and call again to get someone else. They tell you anything if they don't want to deal with it which is unfortunate but there are ppl that work there that will and want to help you.
Yes that is correct. She also argued with me that i didnt get the 3rd stimulus for the baby for the same reason but i did get it. She said no you didnt you got $8400 that is 2 adults and 4 dependents and i said yes and then a few weeks later i got an additional $1400. She did not know what to say. Then she told me to try amending my return to add my 5th child. Even though he is already on me return. You are right I feel like they make up random things everytime I call.
@Lortiz2 With all of that being true than I say with confidence once you get the right person at the IRS you will get your missing $1100. Explain to them that you know this is a common problem and that all they have to do is adjust the amount since you received your 2020 tax return. Just keep calling. You will eventually get someone that will help. Don't give up and know that it will happen eventually. I hope this gives you enough hope to endure.
You will get the $1100, but you will need to be patient. @Lortiz2 It is true that there are only 4 lines of dependents on Form 1040, but the other dependents will show up and get processed and they will remit the funds you qualify for, but I can't say when that will happen. They are manually processing millions of returns right now. Did you claim the $1100 on your 2020 tax return? If so, all you can do now is wait and know that you will get it.
Created an account just to say "thanks" and share that I had the same issue and it has now been resolved.
I, too, had a 5th baby born in 2020 and claimed a $1,100 difference on my line 30 because the baby did not receive stimulus payments #1 or #2. The IRS kept my return for over 3 months, then "corrected" it by removing my credit.
When I called (right when they opened on a Monday morning, waited on hold for about 60 minutes), the representative said the issue was that my newest baby was not counted because she was not listed on the 1040 where there are only 4 lines.
My return, which was completed by software, had checked the little box there that says "I have more than 4 dependents and they are listed on a separate statement". The 5th child did receive the CTC.
At first the representative insisted that I would have to file an amended return and that they were correct to have denied the payment because my child wasn't listed on front of the 1040 page 1. I refused to accept this answer, and kept asking questions like, "Where are you supposed to include the dependents if you have more than 4?" (on a separate statement, which I included) "What does that little box mean?" (look at the separate statement) "How did they receive the CTC if the system didn't receive their info?" (the system did in fact receive the info on the separate statement)
Eventually I was put back on hold, waited 15 minutes (while she presumably consulted with someone), and was then told that yes, I had done everything correct, and yes, I was eligible for that payment. She said it would be sent.
I checked my tax account transcript online and can now see a new, additional $1,100 credit backdated to April 15th.
So it ended well, but (1) be persistent! even if the representative says you don't get the credit or that you need to refile, and (2) this seems related to the 5th or higher child being born in 2020.
But again -- thanks for this thread and all who wrote, it's what gave me encouragement to push for that credit.
Did you ever get the $1100? I’m in the exact same boat, (6 dependent, 1 a 2020 baby, all qualify but the 2020 babies was denied.) I can’t get anyone on the phone. I’ve been switched from department to department only to be transferred and hung up on in the process.
@Sl3arnes There have been many of us on here that after many many failed attempts, frustrating phone calls, hang-ups and being told we wouldn't get that money....... that have received the full amount we were supposed to receive. Just keep calling. If you were supposed to get the money you will. Just be persistent like we all had to be. And be kind, it goes a long way.
That is exactly my situation. I didn't get any news on my refund until last week after 4 months. Birth last year, #6. Got the stimulus for everyone else, claimed the recovery rebate for the baby and it was rejected, but got the child tax credit for all my children including the new baby. I have tried calling the last two days, but at the end of entering in all the info I get "due to the call volume in your topic we cannot take your call, please call back tomorrow or the next business day..." I plan on getting into the routine of calling once per day.
On a positive note, it looks like in addition to my partial refund deposited, the third stimulus (EIP3) for the baby was deposited shortly after the refund.
@Lortiz2 I'm interested in if you got your child tax credit today and if so, was the amount correct?
