The Dependent Worksheet keeps returning an error because it is not yet updated for OBBBA qualified education spending changes. When will Turbotax release that info?

I know I don't need the updates but Turbotax won't let me continue to file without the changes.

Has TurboTax replied to this question yet? I am unable to complete my tax return for the same reason.

Are you referring to the Dependent Information Worksheet or the Student Information Worksheet?  If you can share the error you're receiving, we'll try to help.

Here's more info on OBBB changes for 529 education spending (one takes effect for 2026, one after 7/5/2025):

  • 529 Plan Expansions:
    • Higher Withdrawal Limits: Starting in 2026, the annual limit for tax-free 529 withdrawals for K-12 tuition and expenses doubles from $10,000 to $20,000 per year.
    • Expanded Eligible Expenses: For distributions after July 4, 2025, 529 funds can now cover curriculum materials, online learning tools, tutoring, standardized test fees (e.g., SAT/ACT), and dual-enrollment costs.
    • Vocational & Credentialing: 529 funds are now eligible for workforce training, certifications (e.g., HVAC, cosmetology), and continuing education required for professional credentials.

If you received a Form 1099-Q and the distribution was used entirely for qualified education expenses, you don't need to enter it in your return.

I am getting this same error.   It is for the Student Information Worksheet:  Line 8 - You may quality for OBBA expanded QTP/529 educational expenses.  The program is not yet updated to support this.  Please check back later for updates.

In my case I just entered the information from my 1099-Q.   The distribution was entirely for qualified expenses.

I tried even deleting the 1099-Q entry and I still get stuck with this error upon the Review stage and cannot proceed.

Since you've already deleted the 1099-Q, try deleting the Student Info Worksheet also, then close the program, clear Cache and Cookies, re-open TurboTax and step through the Education section again.

I am required to enter the Student Worksheet because some of my distributions were not used for qualified expenses. TurboTax does not let me exit the review step. When will the program be updated so that people like me can file their returns?
