Someone claimed me as a dependent without my permission. Does being claimed mean you don't get as much money and how can i change the dependent option.

The only thing to do is call the IRS and report your situation.

You can also mail your tax return in since you would not be able to electronically file since your number was already used.

You can contact the IRS to report the suspected tax fraud if you determine someone else did claim you as a dependent.  See the following link on instructions on how to report the questionable activity.

I was denied the stimulus $1200 for my sister claimed me on her taxes however, she never provided the 13 mths i lived in her home. A few years back, 3 or 4. my uncle claimed me as a dependent because he would help pay the co pay on my medicine, take me to the doctor  and gave me money when I needed help. But this year he claimed me without permission and he hasn't done anything to help me out in 3 or 4 years. He did it without me permission. I was wondering why I didn't receive my 1200.00 until I got in touch with IRS, and found out  what he has done. So what should I do to get my 1200.00?

Yes I believe that someone has carried you on taxes. I am in that same situation. I receive SSI and Social Security and I got nothing. I didn't have to file anything, and my 1200.00 were suppose to come to me. What happened.

If  you were improperly claimed  by another taxpayer, your e-filed return will reject since the SSN has already been used.
Your only recourse is to file a correct tax return, claiming what you are entitled to claim, then print and mail the return.

The IRS will process both returns and pay any refunds. Shortly (within a year) the IRS will mail letters to both taxpayers asking if their tax return was filed in error and suggesting that they amend if the claim was improper.

If neither taxpayer amends, the IRS will send a second letter asking for each taxpayers proof that they are entitled to claim the dependent.

The IRS will evaluate each taxpayers claim and award the dependent to one taxpayer, the other will have to payback any refund received plus interest and possible penalties.

Do not ignore the letters or you will loose.
