Same-Kind IRA Rollovers

In 2025, I did several IRA rollovers.  They were always same-kind rollovers (e.g., Traditional IRA to Traditional IRA, Roth IRA to Roth IRA) and they were always from Schwab to Fidelity.  No 1099-Rs were issued to me.  I this normal?  Please advise.  Many thanks.

Same-Kind IRA Rollovers

To be clear, the movement of an IRA by trustee-to-trustee transfer is neither a distribution nor a rollover.  That's why such movements are not reportable.  The movement of a 401(k) to an IRA, even if done directly, is a distribution and rollover, so that's reportable.

Yes, this is normal because these were trustee-trustee rollovers and not 60-day rollovers. The reason you haven't received  1099-R's is that these transfers are non-reportable events for tax reporting purposes.

Thanks! Very helpful! One follow-up question: What about the rollover of a 401k (at an employer) directly to a Traditional IRA (at Fidelity)?  Will this generate a 1099-R?

Yes. A direct rollover from a 401(k) to a Traditional IRA within 60 days will generate a Form 1099-R with Code G (rollover) in Box 7. This is a non-taxable event.
