If I today buy from Amazon the TT Desktop packages (Home & Business for 1040 and Business for S-corp) and download to present computer will I be able to re-install on the new computer that I anticipate buying in January/February timeframe?
I would like to get familiar with the software but am worried that TT won't let me download and install to more than 1 target device.

Again ... ALL of the downloaded programs can handle ALL forms/situations ... only the ONLINE version requires the Premier version. Needing to upgrade the downloaded program is a common misconception that TT promotes to push a higher priced version. A few years ago they tried to REQUIRE the upgrade of the downloaded version just like the online program but this was met with great resistance and anger so they quickly reversed the process.
Note the word "recommended" but not required for the downloaded version so if you are comfortable entering in the information needed you do NOT have to buy the most expensive program.
You can download on up to 5 computers you personally own without issue.
But may I suggest you skip the H&B version and just get the Deluxe if you need a state return (careful amazon sells them with & without the state) or Basic if you don't need a state or to import from It's Deductible and save yourself a few bucks. All the personal Downloaded versions can handle ALL the same forms/situations so unless you feel the need to upgrade for more "hand holding" you can use the cheaper version. H&B is "recommended" but not required ... it is a marketing ploy to get you to buy the more expensive product.
Tnx for the info. I thought that I needed the H & B version for the 1040 prep because I have K-1, investments, and rental. Not so?
Your rental will probably require you to upgrade to Premier. But start with Deluxe and only buy a more expensive version if you really need it.

Tnx for the great answer. Yes the way that they market their distinct 1040 products is more than a little bit misleading, but you have explained it well.
