My was sale loss is $.29. My Turbo Tax will not allow me to send my tax return but it also wont allow me to enter the $.29, what do I do?
If the wash sale was less than .50 cents you will need to leave the wash sale blank.
You can make the adjustment on your wash sales to correct this by:
So the search option doesnt work as it just circles you back around.
What I did was go back to federal tax tab, and choose the option to work on your own, and from there the issues can be resolved by changing box 1g to $1
The right click and override function worked perfectly for this issue. It looks like a standard windows pop-up when you right click but look closely and the 3rd or 4th line of pop-up says override. Thanks so much, this was a big headache for me.
There is no way to just search by just wash sale transactions. I would have to sort through over 600 transactions to find out which ones are less than $0.5 to delete. There has to be a better way to fix this bug on the turbotax end of things.
I am having the same problem and therefor due to this software glitch, turbotax will not allow me to file. I have tried their help phone number without being able to get past hold.
I am having this same issue and also have 600+ transactions. No way am I going to sort through them all if TurboTax can't figure this out, I'll just head over to a different site
@AnnetteB6 is there really no way to do these in bulk? I have several hundred such transactions
Noahns42, I would refer you back to the solution that worked for me ... I deleted all the transactions that were imported from my broker, then created a single Capital Gains/Loss submission using the totals from the broker statement, including any disallowed wash sale loss totals. Worked fine; the only drawback is you have to send along to the IRS a copy of your 1099 info as supporting documentation.
I am also having this problem and it is RIDICULOUS. It takes about a minute to edit each transaction, but because there is no way to sort or to do this in bulk, you have to go through each one to figure out which ones to edit. I have 432 transactions. There's nothing turbo about this. And I don't think you should have to mail something to the IRS when using online tax prep software. It kind of defeats the whole purpose. How is this a problem that hasn't been fixed yet? I've been a TurboTax customer for 15 years, but I'm heading over to H&R Block.
@Jerry-B so I guess if we don't have a printer at home we do...nothing?
How will we know when or if it will be fixed? This is definitely a bug.
Yeah, definitely a bug. I went back line by line and fixed all my wash sales under .50 and left it empty like the review told me to do. After that, I went to submit and reviewed and the forms has reverted back to the error! That only wasted 3 hours of my life. I can still print and file by mail, but we pay for Turbotax so it can be easy and so we can file online. We have been a customer of Turbotax for years, but if the program is not working, then we have to find another solution.
it won't let me enter any number or leave it blank. It aleways reverts to 0. and says that is not allowed
TurboTax should definitely fix this bug, but they probably have bugs everywhere with the software, tbh. We shouldn't have to print our tax forms and mail them. It is TT responsibility to fix the issue. If we complain enough they will triage this matter so people can go on with filing their return. I don't want to enter in incorrect numbers to hack my way through, nor do I wan to enter in the information manually. It's not a good use of time.
