Completely agree with your conclusion. It's misleading of TT to label these responses as being from Expert Members.
You are more than correct.

Ridiculous. Put it back on the link
I think it is pretty clear by now that TT has no intention of responding to this thread, or the issue of the broken link to figure out what updates have been made. The TT support team is based in India, so like most Indian support groups, their comprehension of written English is sometimes limited. Since the support team is not really "supported" by Intuit or it's development team, they have no way of finding out themselves where the broken link for the updated forms should point to. I've had problems all day using TT to create my tax return, and I was not able to submit/upload it to the IRS this evening. Plus their update throws an error code, and locks up the application. I've had to do a hard reboot to get out of the TT app once it locks up. I've used TT since it first came out, well over 25 years ago. But this is the last year I will waste my money on any Intuit application. I suspect Intuit is having cash flow problems, as they sold Quicken last year and that application is now completely ruined, and I have used Quicken since it first came out also. Wish me luck in trying to file my tax return tomorrow via the TT application.
I have had a direct message with TT on Twitter. If they fail to address or respond I will post on LinkedIn where I have over 7,000 tax related followers. I'll see what that community has to say.
I am disappointed to read the responses from Turbo Tax. I am in the same boat. May need to look to another source for tax filing next year. Too bad, it's been a great product up to now.
This didn't update from inside the program , clicking online. It gives the error code 42016. Not very happy with program this year.
Release notes for updates have been discontinued. If there are any updates that affect your return, you will be notified via email.
@DaraLO why was there no email to users on this then so honestly I can't say I trust your response. Why is there still a BROKEN link in the program to a 404 page as opposed to a new page indicating the new process. How in the world does Turbo Tax know what affects my return? What if my reason has to do with new information that I didn't even know about. None of this makes sense. TT has failed the tax community on this one.
"If there are any updates that affect your return, you will be notified via email."
I'm calling BS on this
Yes, we all know that they have been discontinued, a few years ago. But you miss the point; fix the program and stop giving people a link to find the changes. Just put your note in the update box. Would save many people a lot of time and frustration. If you guys can figure out the tax laws you can figure out how to communicate.
For DaraLO
Employee TurboTax Specialist:
Use of TurboTax has been discontinued. Notices will not be sent by email as no one at Intuit would pay any attention to them.

WE DO NOT BELIEVE YOU! This is utter nonsense. Let’s take a survey of TT users. Who among you has ever received an email from TuboTax that something in a TT software update affected your tax return? I bet the first notification anyone got was a letter from the IRS
I wasted a couple of hours of my life fighting my way to actual (I think) human customer support agents. I asked both of them the same question - how would I know if I needed to refile/file an amended return due to these undocumented changes. One claimed that this would only be necessary if the IRS changed something, i.e., that nothing would be Intuit's fault so they had no obligation to tell me what changed. The other one told me - in so many words - that the IRS would contact me if there were any problems!
