When I filed yesterday, I designated that that the money owed be taken out of my bank account directly. How long does this take? The money still hasn't been taken out and since I already filed, I'm not able to go back and view or modify the settings where I asked that the money be taken out. The website now just directs me to the IRS, but I only owe money to the State of Vermont.

@wet0529 it's up to the state/ IRS to debit the money from your bankt account. TT doesn't do that. Call Vermont DOR and ask that question. I'd give it a few days; I suspect it will occur.
@NCperson happy to give it a few days, but when I filed there was a specific prompt from TT asking me how I would like to pay. I inserted my checking account info and ask that it be directly taken from my account. TT asked what day I wanted this to happen on and I selected yesterday, the date of filing.
Have you received word yet that your efiled state return has been accepted?
You can look at your Electronic Filing Instructions in your return PDF to review your information. There should be an electronic filing instructions for Federal and another one for state.
We can tell you a special way to get a larger PDF with the pages. Are you using desktop software or Online TurboTax?
@mesquitebean Yes, Vermont (and others) have all been accepted. I clicked "Download Return" which produced a PDF, but don't see anything about Electronic Filing Instructions. I'm using the TurboTax website.
The PDF downloaded at the Tax Home is very basic. There is more info in the larger PDFs. Here's how to get larger PDFs with all the worksheets, Electronic Filing Instructions, etc. by going to the Print Center inside the return interview.
NOTE: When you open your return back up, do not make any changes in it since it's already been filed. If you later have to amend the return, it has to start off exactly as it was when it was originally filed.
NOTE: Remember all PDF tax documents and tax data files are very sensitive files, since they contain your personal ID info, financial data, and possibly bank account numbers, etc. Be sure to store them safely and securely to guard against computer theft, hacking, etc.
@mesquitebean thank you so much for the detailed instructions! The document indicates that I opted to pay the balance through Direct Debit with a withdrawal date of 4/12/2026, so I should probably just give it some time. I really appreciate the fast and detailed help!
@wet0529 I am surprised it permitted you to select April 12 as that is the weekend and debits only occuring on Banking days. So I would suspect you see the debit posted today (so you will see in your banking account on Tuesday)
You're welcome. I'm glad the larger PDF showed your information.
I'm curious if it will show up in another place--for my own future reference. When you go to the Tax Home and scroll down to Your Tax Returns & Documents, for 2025 do you see a link for "View order details?" If so, when you view that, does it say anything about making a tax payment? Just wondering, since I have no way to test it.
