PA 529 tax deduction issue

Hello,

I'm filling jointly with my husband. My understanding is that each of us can contribute up to $19000 in 2025 and get deduction on PA state tax. But when I fill our state tax return in turboTax, it wouldn't allow to deduct any contribution from my husband. Is this correct? Thanks!

It depends. PA 529 FAQs states: Pennsylvania taxpayers can deduct up to $19,000 in contributions per beneficiary per year ($38,000 if married filing jointly, assuming each spouse had income of at least $19,000) from their Pennsylvania taxable income for the purposes of determining their state income taxes.

You may want to review his income sources and what stats are selected.

Thanks for your reply. I did research the rules before asking this question. Both my husband and I make more than $19k and the filing status is married jointly. I’m filing my state return together with my federal. The filing status was pulled directly from the federal return filing.
