I filed my 2020 and 2021 taxes with TurboTax Deluxe. Last year, the 2021 taxes were e-filed in March. I owed money and had set up while filing to have the money withdrawn April 13, 2022. I received notification that my tax return had been accepted. The payment never came out of my bank account. I have been on the IRS website and there is no record of my 2021 tax return, nor my 2020 return which was also e-filed using the TurboTax software. I have since sent a check for the money owed. This year I am getting a refund, so I hope everything is working and the return actually gets to the IRS.

if your online account with IRS shows no record of your 2020 or 2021 tax return you have to resubmit on paper via US Mail or FEDEX.
It seems 2020 was never filed. I have been unable to find proof that I did, and I owed money. I still had the software and .PDF copies. So it was easy enough to file a printed return. Apparently in 2021, even though my e-file was accepted someone else filed with my SS#. I went on the IRS validate website, but apparently it is useless. I used it this year too and when I talked to an agent on the phone there was no record of my having responded. So now, for the foreseeable future I will have to file paper returns and have them questioned. I have had no other identity issues, I’m starting to think Intuit was hacked since so many other TurboTax users seem to be having issues.
If you are concerned about ID theft, you can get on the IRS IP PIN list.
It currently takes about a year for the IRS to process your request, you might have it in time for next year.
you still need your 2022 AGI to e-File a 2023 tax return.
I already received my IRS PIN and included it on all three of my tax returns sent yesterday. And it’s not a matter of worrying if my tax ID was stolen, they told me it was, at least for 2021 & 2022. I am dealing with it. I have spoken to an IRS agent (only took about an hour and a half to get answered!) I filed my taxes for years by mail, no big deal.
