My ex hadn't refinanced to take me off the loan for our house after divorce. She did not pay mortgage for 2 years. I had to sell the house to payoff the outstanding mortgage. Does the payoff amount include interest & prop taxes that I can deduct? thanks

The lender should send you a Form 1098 in January that will show how much interest you paid in 2022. It should also show how much property tax they paid on your behalf. If you want to know before then, you have to ask the lender. We have no way of knowing what was included in your mortgage payoff.

You might want to check with the tax office for the municipality to make sure the property tax was actually paid. They can also tell you how much was paid. You can deduct the property tax that the lender paid on your behalf. Also check the closing statement for the sale and see if you paid any past-due property tax at closing.

Thank you very much! I will reach out to the lender
