Every year I get caught in this same impossible loop and it REALLY upsets me. The 1st screen in the Medical deduction section asks if I (or my wife after me) contributed to a HSA, a MSA, or a medicare MSA. My answer is truthfully "NO" for both myself and my wife (married filing jointly). The next screen ask what type of HDHP insurance I had on December 1, 2019 - "Family" or "Self". As I am covered by my wife's insurance plan as she is a Texas Retired Teacher employee, I check the "Family" box for both of us.
Here's where the issue lies - by checking the "family" (or even the self box for that matter), the NEXT screen insinuates that my HDHP lapsed in 2020 either due to a disability OR "other reasons". I'm supposed to check either of these 2 boxes!! It's the only choices I have! the point is my medical coverage NEVER lapsed. I have a 1095B from our private insurer to prove it!! This is crap! I can't continue in Turbo Tax after this false assumption!! It even asks me if I received my 1095 A assuming I was on Obamacare which couldn't be further from the truth!
Please Help! I REALLY need to finish my taxes...
Thank you in advance!

Your issue is with the question that asks "What type of High Deductible Health Plan did [name] have on December 1, 2019?"
This question needs to be asked of all taxpayers, because they may have had an HSA in 2019, and not in 2020.
Unfortunately, the question does not clarify that it is only for a small group of taxpayers and that all other taxpayers should answer "NONE". If you did not have or contribute to HSAs in 2019, then to the question above, just answer "NONE" for each of you. Then you won't see the lapse message or any of the following screens.
I will take your advice and just answer "NO" even though we were both covered by a HDHP during the time in question. I wish TT would get their act together in this area because it continues to haunt me each year. It's hard to answer a question untruthfully just to keep out a loop.
But, make no mistake, I really do appreciate your answer and coming to the rescue!!
Thank you!
