If had refunds on federal and state, then overnight it changed to zero without any added input. How/why does this happen?

Have you already filed?  This can happen sometimes.  Please see this Help Article for further explanation.

I have not filed and I have not amended a return. Still not sure why refunds turned to zero overnight.

The refund tracker just tracks what your refund will be if you have entered all of your info already.  As you go along and enter new information it can change.

It's possible that the last thing that you entered last night changed it to zero or that it hasn't caught up with what you are entering today since you just opened it.

Continue with your return and see if it catches back up with you as you go and review the return.  It may be that your refund is zero but it also may be that your refund is there but you just can't see it yet.

Actually I did not enter any additional information, the refund amount simply changed overnight without any input. Still not sure what is going on. I have had other problems with the software this year, talked to four other folks and ended up having to "Clear All" and start over.

Tbf...Ive been trying to file my taxes since 1/24 and have met nothing but errors this year and really bad information. Im sorely tempted to switch to a different agency for this year unless they can work out the bugs

@jalferman  A couple of possibilities:

  • Forms are still being updated and released continuously which keeps changing the program. The program is initially based on expected forms. Some forms were still not approved when tax season ended last year at the state level.
  • It is also possible a cookie got stuck and you need to clear your cache and cookies or just change browsers.

@Acanex Can you clarify what issues you are having so we can help?
