I purchased and downloaded turbotax premier with 5 federal filing.Why is it charging me $45 to e-file my federal?

Are you possibly in the Online version? Do you see a black menu bar on the left side?  Please post your additional details here for further assistance.

Are you in California?  In the Desktop program there is a $25 fee to efile a state return.  Then to have the fee deducted from your federal refund is an extra $45 Processing Service charge which you can avoid by paying with a credit card or you can print and mail the state for free.  Go back though the FILE tab and watch the screens carefully.  There is one that will trip you up.  Watch what you click on!

The ready to file page says $0 but when I hit the continue button it says have to pay $45

Can you post a screen shot of it?  There should be a description on it.  Like Audit Defense or Premium?

Does it think you need to file in another different state?  It might want you to buy a state program for $45.
