I never had Insureance this year 2021. I didn’t receive a 1095A and every time I got to efile it keep denying my file and saying I need to submit a 8962 OrACA Explanation

I don’t have a 1095 or 8962. What’s the ACA Explanation they are asking for?

Please try these instructions below to first delete the blank 1095A/8962 forms and then select "NO" for receiving a 1095A.

  • When revisiting the section the default answer is still set to "Yes," but the 8962 and 1095A are not part of the return.
  • If you select "Yes" you will be prompted to enter the 1095A information and you cannot continue leaving the full form blank as an error will be presented.
  • Now you will not be prompted with the "Yes/No" question to receiving the 1095A and will see your entry with options to edit/delete the entry.
  • Delete the 1095A entry and both the 1095A and 8962 are removed from the return.
  • If you revisit the section again default will be "Yes," but the forms are removed
  • Now, select No. You should be able to e-file your return now

Please be aware it does revert to "yes" if you revisit that section.  Once you have gone through the steps above, please do not go back to that section and the answer will remain as "No".

You can also go to "Delete a form" to verify there is no form 8962 or 1095A showing.  It should not be there.  If it is, then delete the form:

  1. In the left menu, select "Tax Tools" and then "Tools".
  2. In the pop-up window Tool Center, select "Delete a form".
  3. Select "Delete" next to the form/schedule/worksheet in the list and follow the instructions

This does not work!!! I have noticed a lot more people are having this issue. You would think by now you would have figured it out. The irs says they can’t see it and it’s not an error on their side.

There are a couple of reasons why this can happen.  Please try these workarounds.  The first will clear the form.  From time to time it will come back.  Then use the second alternative.

  1. On the menu bar on the left that shows.
    1. My Info
    2. Federal
    3. State
    4. Review
    5. File
  2. Select Tax Tools
  3. On the drop-down select Tools
  4. On the Pop-Up menu select Delete a Form
  5. This will give you all of the forms in your return
  6. Scroll down to the form you want to delete
  7. Select the Form
  8. Click on Delete.

Always use extreme caution when deleting your tax return.

There could be unintended consequences.

The IRS is rejecting returns the return because they believe you or someone on your return had insurance through the marketplace. If you did have insurance through the marketplace in 2020, you may still just be on their list.

The workaround is to enter $1 for the 1095-A.  This will not affect anything on your return but having the form there may get the IRS to accept your return.

To do this take the following steps:

  • Click Deductions and Credits
  • Scroll down to Medical and Click Show More
  • Click Start or Revisit next to the ACA
  • As you walk through the questions, you will be asked if you received a 1095-A.
    • If you did NOT, click YES anyway.
  • Enter 0's for the Marketplace identifier and Policy number.
  • Enter $1 for January monthly premium amount and SLCSP
  • Walkthrough to the end and submit your return.

I just tried the one where someone posted to click yes for 1095 A then put 0, s in and 1 in amount and it worked!! After 7 tries that fixed it and it was Accepted!! Thank you so much
