I am on Review. I added an 1099-NEC under self employing and getting missing "Link to Schedule C" error. Is says double click in form but i can do nothing. Orphaned. Help

@rebeccabeannh  Please keep the discussion of your particular problem in one place. Don't post the same question in multiple places. It's too confusing and hard to follow, and hard to see the whole picture, if information is scattered in multiple threads.

You are better off sticking to the separate question that you posted yourself. Continuing in this thread that you added onto will cause confusion because the problem that is being discussed here is different from your situation.

No worries.  The new form hasn't been successfully integrated into Turbo Tax and I'm not interested in entering bogus info to send to the IRS so your phone reps can get off the phone.  I finally spoke to someone who understands the issue, and she completely understood why I requested a refund.  She processed it and I completed my tax return on HR Block.  Hope my post didn't continue to confuse you.

Just joined the club. Experiencing the same 'double click to link' issue. Getting mad slowly because of Intuit's signature subtle yet elliptical instructions and advises.

Why can not link my 1099-NEC in TurboTax Online? (intuit.com)

@Kat Thank you so much for advice. In fact I am not blind, found that page and have subscribed to updates already. The only thing I am really worried about  is the way Intuit tech support has used to handle such problems. I afraid it would take months of patient waiting for the ultimate solution.

@LeoBash So sorry if my post offended you!  There are many (MANY) users that don't read a thread before posting.  I was just making sure you had seen the signup.

And yes...we will see how quickly this issue is resolved.  Sigh.

I really appreciate Kat's help. I really don't like that TurboTax uses crowd sourced answers as a means of a technical support. I spent probably 8 hours through 2 calls to TT and other efforts to thwart this issue. Instead, I redid my taxes on a competitor site in 30m and have filed. After many many years my business has been lost.

@jay_chumley So glad you've been able to file, even if it was through a TurboTax competitor.

So you don't like the "Champions" program that TurboTax is using?  It is strictly a group of volunteers who try to assist users.  I've often found that Champs have been able to resolve issues that even CS Agents have not.  Many of my co-Champs are former EAs, IRS employees, etc.  So they're legit.

Thank you for your honest comments.  They are quite valuable.  It's sad for TT to lose a customer like you.

Best of luck, and God bless.

I tried this workaround and unfortunately it is still asking for Schedule C link. It's like it doesn't even recognize that I deleted the previous income and re-entered as Other Income because when it pulls up for me to review, it's still says 1099-NEC

As some of you already know and have acknowledged, there is a known issue when using TurboTax Online that is related to the program asking you to double-click to link to Schedule C.  Take a look at the TurboTax article below and use the link in the article to enter your email address to be notified once this is resolved.

Why can't I link my 1099-NEC in TurboTax Online?

Alternatively, take a look at the additional information below for a possible series of steps to solve the issue.

Since income reported on Form 1099-NEC needs to be reported on Schedule C, the program is trying to tie these two forms together to be sure that it is reported correctly and on the right form.

Try going back to the section where you entered the Form 1099-NEC if you entered it on its own and delete that entry.  Use these steps:

  • On the top row of the TurboTax online screen, click on Search (or for CD/downloaded TurboTax locate the search box in the upper right corner)
  • This opens a box where you can type in “1099-NEC” and click the magnifying glass (or for CD/downloaded TurboTax, click Find)
  • The search results will give you an option to “Jump to 1099-NEC
  • Click on the blue “Jump to 1099-NEC” link

This will bring you to the summary of all Form 1099-NEC that you have entered.  Click Delete or the trash can icon next to each one.

Next, you will re-enter the Form 1099-NEC as part of the Schedule C so that the income is reported directly as part of your Business Income and Expenses and within the correct form and section of your return.

Use these steps to go to the Schedule C section of your return.

  • On the top row of the TurboTax online screen, click on Search (or for CD/downloaded TurboTax locate the search box in the upper right corner)
  • This opens a box where you can type in “schedule c” and click the magnifying glass (or for CD/downloaded TurboTax, click Find)
  • The search results will give you an option to “Jump to schedule c
  • Click on the blue “Jump to schedule c” link

If you already have a Schedule C in your return, edit it and go to the section to Add Income.  This is where you will re-enter the Form 1099-NEC.

If you do not already have a Schedule C in your return, follow the prompts and enter the information about your work/business for which you received the Form 1099-NEC.  Then continue through that section to Add Income and enter the Form 1099-NEC plus any other income you received for that self-employed business.

Don't forget you can also claim expenses related to your business.

After you are finished, the error condition should be eliminated.
