HSA excess

I had an excess contribution in my 2025 HSA account. I made the correction by removing the excess amount and having the bank send me a check for that amount. The check came to me in January 2026. How do I address this in my taxes? And since I received check in 2026 is that addressed in my 2026 taxes or 2025? Thanks!

Enter the full amount of your contribution to your HSA for 2025.  The system will tell you that you have an overcontribution.  You will tell the system that you have removed the excess prior to the due date of the return.  Should be all good after that.  You won't need to enter anything about this on your 2026 return.
