Is this is from Minnesota?
It will be reported as "other income" on the Federal return. Perhaps somebody else can direct you how to enter that into TurboTax.
It is not taxable for State purposes. Hopefully the state portion of the program will specifically ask you about it, so it is subtracted from your income for state income tax purposes and for the state property tax refund.
See screenshots below as per @AmeliesUncle's request for someone to post procedure for TurboTax.
However, note that I have no idea whether this procedure will result in the figure propagating to the Minnesota return.
Yes it is for Minnesota. Under the whats new in 2022 link there is info on the Minnesota frontline workers pay it’s says “Minnesota Frontline Worker Pay Program. If you received a payment from the Minnesota Frontline Worker Pay Program, you may subtract the amount that is included in your federal adjusted gross income.” And I’m a bit confused by this, I’m sorry if this is silly and I’m just misunderstanding but could someone explain this in regards to how I’m subtracting it?
As I said, hopefully the state portion of the program specifically asks about it. Have you gone through the entire state section yet?
Yes it says to include the amount I received only if reported it in my federal return as federal income, but I’m not sure what allows you to claim it as federal income or not?
You are required to claim it as Federal income. Did you do that? If not, see the screenshots from Tagteam above.
Ok I had the same question. I see there is a spot on MN tax form they ask and you put the amount in.
If you received the frontline workers pay in MN, it gets reported on your federal return under Miscellaneous Income, NOT 'household employees wages'. @Robbi1972
See the image above or click here. That will include the income on your federal return. Then when you get to that section on the MN state return, you can enter the same amount which will subtract it on the state return.
Ok got it. Where it says brief description. When I did MN they asked for the amount so I think I'm good. This pay lowered my refund 140, very disappointed.
When I click on the link to report the MN frontline workers pay as misc income it then wants to charge $39 to complete my return :(
The following FAQ provides a comparison of what each Turbo Tax product supports @Boatfun.
It should be put under "other income" and is taxable on your federal return. On the Minnesota return you subtract it under "other income" adjustments to income, as it is not Minnesota taxable income.
I went to other income, to add frontline worker pay, but it’s requiring me to upgrade. Not happy about this, as this should be part of the free filing!!
