How do I report income without a W-2? I worked in China, paid by Chinese employer, no W-2?
How can I report income? There does not seem to be a way to enter it without a W-2. I was able to do this last year...
I'm a fellow user, not a tax expert, but I can tell you how to get to the section to enter foreign earned income.
You can enter it in the Foreign Earned Income section, and if these were employee wages not reported on a W-2, you can choose the option that you received a "statement from the foreign employer" instead of a W-2. Here's how to get there:
- With your return open, click on the Federal tab in the left menu column.
- On the Wages and Income summary page scroll way down to topic Less Common Income and click "Show More" to expand that section.
- Choose subtopic Foreign Earned Income and Exclusion and Start (or Revisit).
- Next screen asks "Did you make any money outside the US?"
- If "yes", the next screen is "What form(s) was your foreign income reported on?" If these are employee wages and were not reported on a W-2, one of the choices is "a statement from my foreign employer." If that is your situation, then you can choose that option there.
- Continue with the rest of the screens in that topic.
