How do I only purchase TurboTax Deluxe for Federal (and not State)? How can I remove TurboTax Deluxe for State from my purchase?

@jacksonschan1   Oops.  You may be asking about Online, and this answer was for desktop software.  If so, please disregard the below.  I'll leave another answer about the Online version to follow.

If bought directly from TurboTax, the Deluxe desktop version (CD/download) is the combo version with Federal and State.

To get the Deluxe desktop software version without a state, you'd have to buy from another reputable authorized retailer.

You may need to clarify exactly what product you are referring to.   My answer above was for desktop TurboTax.  (CD/download).    Then right after I submitted it, I noticed the badge under your question  says "Online Deluxe."

Are you asking how to remove a state return that was started by accident in Online Deluxe, so you can pay for and file only your online Federal return?

Or were you indeed asking about desktop Deluxe?   Please explain what all you have done/are doing/need to do.

If purchased directly from TurboTax it includes a state program, whether needed or not. 

You have a couple of product choices without a state program.  You may be able to find the 2019 Deluxe software without state (i.e., Federal-only) at a reputable authorized retailer like Amazon, as well as the 2019 Basic edition (which only comes as a Federal program.)   They both prepare the same Federal forms, but Basic cannot import from ItsDeductible if that's a concern.  But even there be sure it is a legitimate authorized product from Intuit sold directly by Amazon itself, since there's no way to be sure all third-party sellers on Amazon are legitimate.   Here's a list of authorized retailers:

Be aware there are "too-good-to-be true" Internet scam sites selling fake or pirated software.  Only companies in the above FAQ are authorized for legit TurboTax downloads.

I edited my answer above to include the Basic Edition as well as Deluxe without state.   I had forgotten to mention the Basic Edition.   Sorry for any confusion.

  If purchased elsewhere (i.e., not directly from TurboTax), you have 2 choices for a program without state.  There is a version of Deluxe that is Federal-only (no state), and the Basic Edition, which only comes as a Federal program.   The Basic Edition also cannot import from ItsDeductible if that's a concern.

All of the desktop editions can otherwise prepare the same Federal forms.   They differ in the amount of help and guidance.  Premier and Home and Business editions only come in a combo Federal and state.

This is super shady.

You make people upgrade two levels from Basic (free) to Deluxe ($60) just to process the single, simple tax deduction from the Health plan Marketplace.  So charging people for something that takes zero extra effort.

But worse than that, you force us to purchase the $60 State Deluxe as well even though we only need the Federal Deluxe to process the Marketplace refund.

So you are charging everyone that has Health Insurance through the Marketplace around $120 to process a refund of around $110-$150...  Shady.  I'll use paper from the start next year now that I know the game.
