If you are including Form 5405 with your tax return, TurboTax will automatically select Form 1040 for you. (Forms 1040EZ and 1040A cannot accommodate a return with Form 5405.) After you enter the information for Form 5405 you may preview your Form 1040.
To get to Form 5405 in TurboTax:
- Continue your return in TurboTax Online. (If your return isn't open, you'll need to sign in and click Take me to my return.)
- Click the drop-down arrow next to Tax Tools (lower left of your screen).
- Select Tools.
- In the pop-up window, select Topic Search.
- In the I'm looking for: box, type 5405.
- In the results box, highlight 5405, first-time homebuyer credit, then click GO.
- Follow the onscreen instructions.
To preview your Form 1040 and locate the repayment of the first-time homebuyer credit (Form 5405):
- Continue your return in TurboTax Online. (If your return isn't open, you'll need to sign in and click Take me to my return.)
- Click the drop-down arrow next to Tax Tools (lower left of your screen).
- Select Tools.
- Under Other helpful links…, click View Tax Summary.
- At the left side of the screen, click Preview my 1040.
- Scroll down to line 60b. Your first-time homebuyer credit repayment will appear here. (Click the screenshot below to enlarge it for reference.)
