I thought I was finished and Turbotax has run through all checks and edits and says status of my return is "not printed or efiled". Then I thought about another deduction. I need to add it, but can't figure out how.

If you didn't file your return, you should be able to just go back to your return and make changes. If you actually did file your return, you'll have to amend your return to make changes. Here is a the link to Check Your E-File Status.

It does not really work that way, although gamblers often think it should.
Losses are an itemized deduction. If you do not have enough itemized deductions to exceed your standard deduction, your losses will have no effect.
