My wifes ex- husband retired early at age 52 on a disability from his job as a nys correction officer. She started receiving checks monthly as a result, because of a qdro agreement. When I input the 1099r into turbo tax it thinks that she was the state employee. Am I doing something wrong?

The 1099R she is receiving from his pension is actually a part of his pension.
You would answer the questions from his viewpoint.
I was expecting turbo tax to ask me questions about her being an alternate payee under a qdro agreement or something like that. It only asked if she was a public safety officer which I answered no.
In terms of your QDRO payments, they are taxable to you in the same manner as they are to the original owner of the account. You should be receiving Form 1099-R. Repeat steps above to search 1099-R data entry. Please be sure enter 1099-R form into TurboTax exactly as it appears and answer follow up questions.
