You can file IRS Form 1310 in TurboTax to claim the tax refund for a decedent return (a return filed on behalf of a deceased taxpayer). Here's how:
We'll give you the option of paper-filing the form by itself or including it with the decedent's return when filed.
Thanks for your reply. Those are the current instructions for form 1310 that I'm referring to in my original post. My question is, if filing electronically, how do you sign the form before filing? If I print it out and sign it, is there a way to attach the signed form to my return?
You have to go through the steps mentioned above to determine whether the e-filed form will be accepted. Answer the interview questions then the program will alert you whether you will be able to e-file or if paper mailing is required.
Thanks! I was able to e-file form 1310 along with my state and federal returns. It would be nice if TT let people know that they would have an opportunity to "sign" the form by entering today's date just before e-filing. Appreciate the feedback!
Court appointed Box B and have previously submitted the court appointment papers to the IRS, Counter-intuitive that as a court appointed executor you cannot file electronically.
Looks like paper.
Instructions not clear on what driver's license or state id to use in e-filing return even if I could. Executor driver's license active. State cancels driver's license and/or state id upon death. Not letting me e-file so don't know if that would also be a problem.
