For tax purposes you're either a dependent for the entire year or none of the year. There's no such thing as a dependent for part of the year.
If you became ineligible to be claimed as a dependent in 2018, you are responsible for your insurance for the entire year. If you were covered by an ACA exchange plan for part of the year, even if somebody else was paying for it, you would still enter the insurance information related to your own coverage on your tax return.
If my son was on my aca policy until August 2020. He then went into the military and was taken off my aca policy. He makes a good income and he is now independent. If You can not have dependency for part of the year for the aca , he is claiming himself for 2020 then will I be hit with a big aca shortfall bill since he is not a dependent now?
WGwel When entering your 1095-A you can indicate that more than one person was on your policy. You can then 'allocate' part of the policy to yourself and part to your son.
He may need to enter info from your 1095-A into his return, if he did not receive his own 1095-A.
