Finish up form 8917

Form 8917 is related to the Tuition and Fees Deduction. To enter qualified education expenses in TurboTax Online:

• Under Federal, click on Deductions & Credits
• Under Education, click on Start/Revisit next to Expenses and Scholarships (Form 1098-T)
• Answer YES to the question Do you want to enter your higher education expenses?
• Add a Student. You will choose an individual on your return from the dropdown menu on the next screen.
• Continue answering the questions through the remaining screens and enter the school information and dollar amounts paid

Be sure to check if Form 8863 for either the American Opportunity Credit or Lifetime Learning Credit are available to you. Typically, credits are more valuable than deductions, as they reduce your tax liability dollar-for-dollar.
