Hello,
I had an excess 401k contribution for 2021 which I reported on my last year's tax return following the steps described in several posts here on the TurboTax forum. Basically entering it in the Other income not already reported on a Form W-2 or Form 1099 section. I have also received a check for the excess contribution before the deadline for last year's filing.
This year I got a 1099-R for 2022 with box 7 marked as P. My question is, do I have to enter (and where) the 1099-R information in the 2022 tax return, since I already reported it on my last year's return?
Thanks
Svilen
You'll need to sign in or create an account to connect with an expert.
You should enter the Form 1099-R. The code P will prompt the program to ask you if the 1099-R shows 2022 or 2023. When you enter 2022, the program will tell you that the information needs to go on your 2021 return, and that you may need to amend your return if you've already filed it. Since you've already reported the amount on your original 2021 return there is nothing else to do.
Thank you
